Biography
(extract from the printed insert inside the record)
ANNO MUNDI is a heavy-rock band from Rome, Italy, formed during summer of 2009 by guitarist Alessio Secondini Morelli and drummer Gianluca Livi. They changed original name Machine Messiah into ANNO MUNDI (latin for Year of the World, referring to a calendar era counting from the Biblical Creation), to suggest toughness and stony musical coherence and inexorability.
The search for a bass player and a vocalist for a steady line-up was problematic. Several musicians took the first role for a short time but resigned soon after, while for the latter, Anglo-Italian Luca Jason Serafini (from the acoustic guitar duo Street Corner), came in December 2009 as ANNO MUNDI’s interim singer. He never really was a fully fledged band member, still helping the friends for a couple of gigs, in Rome, on January 31th, 2010 at Funnel Live Club (supporting hard rock band GRAAL, whom musical roots deeply sink in 70s hard rock sound) and on May 10th, 2010 at Sinister Noise (with the street/glam band Jonna and the Loud Shooters).
In June 2010, the band had a new steady singer (and rhythm guitarist), Federico Magagnini (formerly with the Mr. Brownstone, a Guns ’n’ Roses cover band), whose rusty and sparkling voice shows marked influence by Axl Rose and Bon Scott at his best. With the new singer, ANNO MUNDI performed a couple of open-air gigs on July 2010, during the Brother Park Woodstock Festival held in Montecompatri, near Rome: the 25th again supporting GRAAL; the 31th withU.N.O., Bobask and Jonna once again.
In August 2010, Alessio and Gianluca started to record their self-produced debut album Cloister Graveyard In the Snow, at the 3Fates Recording Studios, in Rome, owned by EZRA WINSTON, probably the greatest italian new prog band of the 80s. The studio attended by many bands including Matilda Mothers Project, SoneTsenZ, VU-Meters, Anagramma, Gallant Farm and artists like Aldo Tagliapietra (singer/bassist of LE ORME) and Gianni Colaiacomo (bassistof BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO and ANGELO BRANDUARDI).
Unfortunately, last ANNO MUNDI bass player left the band right before recording sessions. Despite the line-up changes, the band was alive and kicking assisted by Luigi Ranieri (also acoustic guitar player) and Michele Raspanti (member of GRAAL), both playing bass on three songs each.
The album features also Paolo Lucini, original member of EZRA WINSTON, who besides mixing/editing the album, also plays piano, keyboards and helped for arrangements and production. Other special guests are Andrea Ciccomartino on vocals (lead singer, rhythm guitarist and composer of GRAAL), Alessandro Papotto on tenor sax (founder of PERIFERIA DEL MONDO and member of BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO, one of the most influential prog bands from Italy). Andrea Ciccomartino and Luigi Ranieri also contributed in arranging two songs (the first on the quite section of God of the sun; the latter on the acoustic section of Dwarf Planet).
The new line-up has been tested in a gig at Alkatraz Pub of Fiumicino (Rome), on June 25th, 2011, with Following the Fool, opening for VU-METERS (a super group formed by members of BALLETTO DI BRONZO, EZRA WINSTON, DIVÆ, OAK and NODO GORDIANO).
The album was released in august 2011, in 100 numbered copies pressed, featuring a 4 sided folder poster, 3 pictures, a printed insert, a giant hand painted poster: first ten copies are all number ones, intended as a gift purpose; the rest of the run are numbered 11 to 100. Additional 10 copies are released as promo copies. The terrific cover is a cult of two century ago: it's entitled "Monastery Graveyard in the Snow" by Caspar David Friedrich (September 5, 1774 – May 7, 1840) which was a 19th-century German Romantic landscape painter, generally considered the most important German artist of his generation. The picture was destroyed in Berlin, during the air-raids of World War II.
