The sound quality of this recording is exceptional and speaks to the technical skills of Decca/London as well as the highly honed skills of Ernest Ansermet in bringing a great ballet to life. Perhaps it was the eight years that Ansermet spent with Diaghilev's Ballet Russes that helped him focus on the practical elements and orchestral direction needed to bring this ballet score to such a high level of artistic achievement.
Since this is an unopened box you have the opportunity to enjoy this music in its pristine condition on your fine playback system. I should also mention that the supposed superiority of Decca over its London label mate is not a scientific fact since both labels were pressed in the same plants with the same stampers.
If you are just assembling your collection of audiophile records, there is no better starting place than with this 50+ year recording since it represents a pinnacle of musical and sonic achievement that has probably not been exceeded or even matched in the ensuing decades.
