Description:
The common practice in concert houses today of performing early music on modern orchestral instruments is owed largely to the endeavours of Ottorino Respighi. His free transcription of Renaissance works for the lute (1932) opened up the way to the rediscovery of forgotten rhythms and timbres. Although Respighi altered the structure of the music by dissecting phrases right down to their basic elements, re-ordering them and redefining their sonority by the use of heavy brass and timpani, the art of the ancient maestri remained unscathed. Cadences and harmonic idioms are given a modern colouring at the most, but are never destroyed. Antal Dorati and his famous Philharmonia Hungarica have all that is needed to bring the score to life. Even in opulent passages the individual instruments can be heard distinctly, and clearly defined one from one another. This works particularly well in the first two suites in which each movement is treated to a process of refinement by means of differing orchestration. That the third suite, written purely for stringed instruments, soars away just like the proverbial Aeolian harp is only to be expected from this orchestra.

Single-Piece Shipping Rates
Shipping Rates-
- USA: $3.99 (or +$3.00 S&H as an additional item on an order)
- CANADA: $14.99 (or +$14.00 S&H as an additional item on an order)
- INTERNATIONAL: $17.99 (or +$17.00 S&H as an additional item on an order)
For combined shipping, the total rate is calculated by taking the highest single item rate of your items and adding the add-on rate for all the other items. Items must be paid for together in a single transaction for the combined rate to apply. Shipping and Handling fees include postage, courier fees, fuel surcharges, customs brokerage costs, and labor. Please note in the instance where your items have the same single-piece shipping price, the checkout will take the single-piece shipping price of the item with the lowest add-on rate.
Items ship within two business days of payment clearing. US orders are shipped by USPS First Class Mail or Media Mail depending on the weight of the order (4-10 business days delivery). All US orders ship with Delivery Confirmation. Canadian orders are shipped via Canada Post (2-10 business days delivery). International orders are shipped via Air Mail (5-15 business days delivery). International orders may take 2-4 weeks to arrive.
Items MUST be paid for together in a single transaction in order to be shipped together and receive the combined item shipping discount. When purchasing multiple items please visit the checkout once you've won everything, not before or the items may not combine properly. Items normally ship out within 2-3 Business Days of receiving payment. S&H fees include postage, courier fees, fuel surcharges, customs brokerage costs, and labor.
