ORIGINAL PRESSING from 1952. Volume 2 "SOCIAL MUSIC" of Harry Smith's Anthology of Folk Music.
From the collection of Henry Cowell (March 11, 1897 – December 10, 1965) the American composer, music theorist, pianist, teacher, publisher, and impresario. Signed by "Cowell" in pencil on upper corner of front title panel on jacket.
A true artifact of 20th Century music history.
The Anthology has had enormous historical influence, on the folk & blues revival of the '50s and '60s, and brought the works of Blind Lemon Jefferson, Mississippi John Hurt, Dick Justice and many others to the attention of musicians such as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. The "Harry Smith Anthology," as some call it, was the bible of folk music during the late 1950s and early 1960s Greenwich Village folk scene. As stated in the liner notes to the 1997 reissue, the late musician Dave van Ronk had earlier commented that "we all knew every word of every song on it, including the ones we hated."
CONDITION (Cover/Records): Good / Poor
Original Gatefold jacket w/ rubbing, light soiling and some fraying along edges, bottom seam split 3" at opening. Spine construction is very fragile and common w/ wear. This spine starting to split in center along one edge, still intact totally. LPs w/ heavy wear, steady background noise, loud clicks and pops. Like listening to the original 78's. NO SKIPS. Original heavy vinyl, FP 252 labels. The real deal. Includes booklet with moderate wear, no writing inside.
