Description
An original US 1967 1st Stereo repress copy of Archie Shepp- Fire Music on the Impulse 4 pillar label, catalogue no. STEREO A-86. We believe this is a rare crossover pressing, possibly late 1966/early 1967, as the title Fire Music appears as one word on the labels as per the 1965 1st press. This variant is not listed on Discogs - the notes on the 1967 repress state;
‘A product of ABC Records inc. New, NY 10019 Made In USA’ on bottom of labels. ‘Fire Music’ two words on labels, not connected as 1965 first pressings. 1967 as per London Jazz Collector Impulse labelography
Degritter cleaned, the vinyl is spotlessly clean with an excellent glossy sheen maintained and no visible marks. The labels and spindle holes are pristine. Graded NM.
Playback reveals an astonishing vibrant sound, spacious and detailed, blistering and very dynamic. Needless to say it plays through beautifully with no jumping, sticking or other issues.
The gatefold sleeve is clean and very sturdy, lovely vibrant print colours maintained. Light shelfwear to the bottom seam & corner rubbing just beginning. A small patch of laminate lift starting near the top rear RH corner spine area. The interior is clean with light foxing ( see photos). Overall very strong, close to EX.
The original Impulse printed inner sleeve is present & in super condition, however, we have decanted the record into a new poly lined inner to keep it pristine after cleaning - you will receive both.
The record will be sent separated out in an archival outer sleeve to prevent transit splits.
An extremely rare opportunity for a collector to own an original copy of this wonderful album.
