PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! ORIGINAL 1958 FIRST PRESS IN MONO!
LEGENDARY "SUN RECORDS" FIRST PRINT
TOP COPY!
JERRY LEE LEWIS
\ USA - SUN RECORDS - LP 1230 (MONO)
In glorious MONO ...
REALLY OUTSTANDING (MINT) TOP COPY of a GREAT (great) artifact literally from 57 years ago!!!
The very FIRST PRINTING - 1958 ORIGINAL of the very FIRST LP by the legendary Jerry Lee Lewis, rockin'-out like his hair is on fire!
It doesn't matter what he recorded: some of the wildest early Rock'n'Roll classics, the hardest and most heart-wrenching rockabilly tunes the 60s and 70s, or anything else that falls in his individual mix of southern-fried keyboard-based 'Jerry Lee Lewis music'... He's a true song stylist of a rare breed - he can completely reinvent a song and never plays the same song the same way twice, a reason why his live act is truly 'the greatest live show on earth'. The Killer also was the rawest there ever was!
When it came time to toss together Jerry Lee Lewis's first LP, producer Sam Phillips had plenty to draw on. In addition to the hits "Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On" and "High School Confidential," the record offered a tour of the tape boxes the Killer had filled in his first months with Sun Records--filled with everything from a stoic "Goodnight Irene" to sloppy, jubilant takes on "Ubangi Stomp" and "Matchbox." Other tunes were left behind, but Phillips figured the 1958 market couldn't handle "Big Legged Woman." He was right; it could hardly deal with this LP!
By the time of this Jerry Lee Lewis' album debut in 1958, he was well established as one of Rock 'n' Roll's original wild men. Hits like "Great Balls of Fire" and "Breathless" showed him to be a formidable keyboard player, a mesmerizing singer and a magnetic showman. This first long player collected a dozen sides, starting with "Crazy Arms" that was waxed in Lewis' audition session for Sun, and extending into 1958.
Lewis is authoritative on tracks he originated, such as the blazing "High School Confidential," as well as a series of rave-up takes on songs he crafts to sound like his own compositions. It's a testament to Lewis' iconic style that he can cover Elvis ("Don't Be Cruel"), Hank Williams ("Jambalaya"), Carl Perkins ("Matchbox") and Warren Smith ("Ubangi Stomp"), and barely give a hint of the originals. Lewis owned everything that rolled off his keyboard - even the trad "When the Saints Go Marching In" sounds like an original.
Jerry Lee Lewis was in his musical prime when he recorded this album and the sound quality achieved by the engineer and producer is both intimate and lively (reflecting the best recording quality of an era where it was generally better than it's been since), and it really reflects his genius in straddling material with R&B, rock and roll, and rockabilly influences. The background musicians are excellent talents in their own right, and the arrangements are tight and well-recorded, allowing Jerry Lee Lewis's genius to shine.
