ARETHA FRANKLIN — LADY SOUL (1968)
Original Atlantic Records Stereo Pressing — Catalog # SD 8176
ARCHIVAL VAULT FIND: STILL FACTORY SEALED & UNPLAYED
An absolute holy grail of American soul and popular music. Released in January 1968, Lady Soul cemented Aretha Franklin as the definitive voice of a generation. Recorded with Jerry Wexler, Arif Mardin, and Tom Dowd at Atlantic Studios in NYC, this landmark album showcases the legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (The Swampers), King Curtis' searing saxophone lines, and backing vocals from Cissy Houston and The Sweet Inspirations—plus guest lead guitar by Eric Clapton on "Good to Me as I Am to You."
To find a legitimate 1968 original Atlantic pressing still encapsulated in its original factory shrink wrap is extraordinary. Most copies of this album were played until the grooves turned grey in living rooms across America; finding an untouched, time-capsule copy is a genuine museum-tier opportunity.
