I will always keep my P&P prices as low as possible, and even after yet another Royal Mail price hike from April this year, I have NOT raised my prices and will never compromise on solid, safe packing that is invariably heavier than most you will get. Label Conditions: Both immaculate: ultra clean, fresh and highly attractive with deep colour. There is barely a spindle trace to be seen and another from the lovely lot I have been, and still am offering. This may not be a very first issue, but if you want still early vinyl in practically as made condition, look no further.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 107 grams. Quite light, but beautifully formed with no recycled vinyl – this beauty – barely even played, offers nigh-on perfect sound.

Country of Manufacture: England.

Rarity: Even as an early repress, this is not an easy one to find. It failed to chart in the UK or US and is rarely seen with a decent cover or little played record – this has both, and looks and sounds terrific.

Original Year of Release: 1969 – this a copy from the early 1970s and still with the central loading, single thickness cover.

Musicians: Rod Argent – organ, electric piano, vocals; Russ Ballard – guitar, vocals; Jim Rodford – bass guitar, guitar, vocals; Robert Henrit – drums, percussion.

Brief Info: Founded in 1969 by Rod Argent, the keyboard player formerly of The Zombies. Like his previous band, this failed to sell well and failed to break into the charts here or in the US. No hit singles either, this is way harder to find than most of their subsequent albums. But for me anyway, this is their best album, and although not a very first issue, it is in superb condition and plays beautifully. Well worth checking out if you prefer Argent before they became too commercial.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): and that some grading for this cover rarely seen half as nice. An unlaminated gatefold format with the front being single thickness and the record entering via the right centrefold. Printed and made in England with plain inner. The outside has a fine sheen surface, the inside matt.

Cover Cosmetic Improvements: None Apparent.

Cover Front: The odd tiny surface mark apart (look very hard), this delicate front is little short of as-made. Few, whatever printing or manufacturer did this, will survive looking this clean, fresh and uncreased, one to hold and enjoy for a change.

Cover Back: The odd fine edge hairline crease apart, this back is sensational and looks beautiful – wear? what wear?

Cover Inner Gatefold: Very gentle and minor tone traces on the right, but this again is beautifully preserved. The centre entrance for the record pristine, so often these types get torn and the spine hinge area often weakened, thinned or split. Rarely will this fragile cover be found better.

Top Edges: Both the thin front and the standard back are unworn, crisp and straight.

Bottom Edges: Largely the same, the odd tiny tip rub being ultra critical.

Right Edge(s), and Type: The thin single thickness front clean, mostly very sharp practically no wear. Any thickening or burring minuscule even as seen viewed end-on. The back edge is solid and closed, the ends gently nipped in manufacture. Still mainly white with minimal darkening traces and uncrushed and neat.

Spine and Text: Near perfect, but being single thickness and thin, this has slight tilt to the left that few will ever hope to avoid as a bare minimum. Solid, straight with minimal barley any compression and folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel – allowing for the gentle tilt to the right edge. All text is perfect and unworn as is the surface, and even the fragile folds have minimal rub traces.

Corners: All corners are in equally amazing condition, that so rarely the case on this format. They retain beautiful, crisp excellent to practically as-made shape.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this very fragile 1970’s cover, one that will prove immensely difficult to find better. This beautiful item should please most-all collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(++): and undergraded as such, but done so for only ultra mild traces of discolouration. I doubt if the record had hardly ever been removed. A basic solid white unlined inner with no creasing or edge splits (or repairs).

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(–): a near supreme visual copy that is ultra clean with wonderful fine shine and quite solidly pressed. A copy barely even played (or handled) on all the evidence with any surface trace marks beyond minuscule, even as seen critically under bright angled light. Visually a superb record that should please all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality debut album plays up to it’s high visual grading with barely anything to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely even registered and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will match, let alone outperform this still quite early orange label pressing significantly I feel sure. A1/B1 matrixes are always good news of course. Cover-protected from new and expertly stored, nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record – indeed my first ever copy of this album. It will prove near impossible to find better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
