Very VERY RARE 7" square mirror-disc (so cool!) lathe just released by Peopl in a Position to Know Recordings out of Olympia WA. This is hand-numbered #78 out of only 88.

Cover is rad, too. Sort of screen print over a holographic backdrop.
from the label's insert: "Thank you for purchasing this R. Stevie Moore/Ariel Pink lathe cut record. In case you aren't familiar with lathe cut record they are records that are cut once at a time (in real time) on a vintage record lathe (In this case in Olympia, WA). This is unlike a pressed record that you generally find in stores, in wich one record master is cut, a mold is made, and a huge peice of impersonal machinery stamps out millions (oops it's post 1998), thousands, of identical, perfect peices of playable plastic.
"This lathe cut record is made from a piece of mirrored acrylic plastic, which, shockingly, was not intended or designed to be made into records. It was designed to be turned into point of sale displays, funhouse mirrors, etc. Because of this, the sound quality of this record is "different" than that of a traditional record. You may experience varying degrees of surface noise (turning down the high end of your stereo EQ will help some), pitch and speed fluctuations, squashed frequencies, etc. Every one of these records was play tested from start to finish after it was cut to ensure that there were no skips, but you may have to adjust the counterweight on your tonearm in order to get the record to track correctly. The plastic also builds up static and collects dust, so you may need to wipe it down with a lint-free cloth and some Windex. We hope that you consider all if these things a cute little quirk of one of the most DIY and handmade records you own. Every aspect of this; the music, the record, and the cover, were all made, with love, by hand, at home, by the artist and the label.
"In addition, almost every aspect of this record was made from recycled or upcycled materials. The mirrored acrylic was collected over several years from the by-the-pound remnant bin of a Tacoma plastic supplier. It came from the end pieces and overcut scraps of various projects and was otherwise destined for the dump. The holographic covers were hand-cut with a T-square and boxcutter (hence the jaggedness of some) from the end remnants of rolls of drum-covering. Even the paper that this insert was printed on was picked up at a garage sale."
super cool, super RARE, only played once by the label. If you are thinking about getting this, you should really get it now, because soon this probably won't be turning up (the few copies being in the hands of people who will not be getting rid of them).
