WITH THE RECENT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 by President Biden, there's dancing in the streets and the whole world is turning Armenian!
TO CELEBRATE, here's a record, which would be a total mystery to me if the labels were in ALL Armenian. Their alphabet is so alien, it might as well be Martian! Thank goodness for the helpful English on the label, or I'd have to wallow in obfuscation. It's by male singer CHAH-MOURADIAN, who does the plaintive ballads "GILIGIA" and "HOV AREK." In the early '20s, the Armenians had a thing or two to complain about.
This lovely original 1923 metallic-green "Flags" Columbia 4009-F is in pretty EE+ condition. See how the grooves go RIGHT up to the label on each side! Chah-Mouradian certainly takes his sweet time.
The late Howard Feldman, that avid seeker of folk melodies, discovered this very curious item.
