Hi! You're looking at a very good condition Vinyl LP which is a Blue Note album with VAN GELDER stamps denoting a Rudy Van Gelder mastering and a classic January 24, 1962 album on the Blue Note Records label by drummer ART BLAKEY and the AFRO-DRUM ENSEMBLE titled "The African Beat"--the record is perhaps the best of Blakey's many drum ensemble recordings and features SOLOMON G. ILORI on the spoken prayer, vocal, penny whistle and talking drums, CHIEF BEY on conga, telegraph drum and double gong, MONTEGO JOE on bambara drums, double gong, corboro drum and log drum, GARVIN MASSEAUX on chekere, African maracas, and conga, JAMES OLA. FOLAMI on conga, ROBERT CROWDER on bata drum and conga, CURTIS FULLER on tympani, YUSEF LATEEF on oboe, flute, tenor saxophone, cow horn, and thumb piano, and AHMED ABDUL-MALIK on bass--in addition to drums, Art Blakey also plays tympani, gong, and telegraph drum. The LP is a Blue Note Records album released in approximately 1970, a Black and Blue label pressing (indicating a West Coast Pressing) and the VAN GELDER stamp on the dead wax, bears the serial number BST 84097 and was made in the United States.
This LP is in very good condition and the vinyl is in VG condition with a few small scratches, some hairline marks, and a number of moderate and light paperr scuffs which case some scattered pops which are more sustained for the very quiet first minute of side one and during a couple of (rare) quiet passages--I've SOUND GRADED THIS LP IN ITS ENTIRETY and it sounds fantastic, with the heavily percussive music very little affected by surface noise except during quieter passages, most prominently the first minute of the record which features a spoken invocation with no music. The cover is in VG++ condition with very small pieces of transparent tape on the opening tips, a small abrasion on the upper spine end of the front cover, a couple of very light creases on the lower left corner of the front cover, a couple of slight thumb creases on the center right of the front cover, light dings on the spine tips, a tiny recording date on the lower right of the back cover, very light ringwear and just light shelfwear otherwise but no other significant flaws--it's NOT a cutout!
Vinyl Grading Standards (unless otherwise indicated, LPs are visually graded)
Mint (or M) – Sealed and effectively perfect with no signs of wear or ever having been played.
Near Mint -- A record with only the slightest evidence of ever having been handled.
Very Good Plus Plus (VG++) A very clean record that has no marks aside from slight scuffs and abrasions caused by removal from a paper inner sleeve or perhaps a few marks on the label caused by a turntable spindle.
Very Good Plus (VG+) A record that has had a number of plays and may have some superficial scuffs, possibly mild to moderate spindle marks and / or possibly hairline scratches on the vinyl, which may produce some intermittent pops and possibly very light background noise.
Very Good (VG) A record that has generally been well cared for, but has seen a fair amount of play, with some scuffing. hairline scratches, spindle marks and / or light scratches. Should play through well, with the possibility of more pops and more background noise.
Very Good Minus (VG-) A record with significant scuffs, scratches, and spindle marks that should play through with moderate pops and surface noise, possibly of some duration.
Good (G) A record with will play through, but with significant pops, substantial background noise, and possibly intermittent skipping.
Poor (P) A record with MAJOR issues that will interfere with play, and will possibly be unplayable in part due to damage (I'll only offer an LP in this condition if it's an extreme rarity and / or for cover art display purposes).
