ART BLAKEY QUINTET "A Night at Birdland Vol. 1" Blue Note 5037, DG, P, mono 10" Vinyl
This is the 1954, 10", Flat Rim, Frame Cover, first edition, Deep Groove, "P"-pressing of ART BLAKEY QUINTET's "A Night at Birdland Vol. 1" on the "767 Lexington Ave" labels of Blue Note BLP 5037. Musicians include Art Blakey, Clifford Brown, Lou Donaldson, Horace Silver, Curley Russell.
FLAT RIM 10" VINYL plays with medium to high level surface noise, ticks and pops, some repeating. But as with all first edition Blue Notes, instruments are clear, dynamic, powerful. Vinyl has many feelable marks. No distortion. No warps. The "767 Lexington Ave" labels show discoloration, aging, wear, spindle marks. See photos.
The FRAME LAMINATED COVER is in excellent condition. No splits of any kind (1/4"split bottom seam near opening) . Corners a little worn. Back jacket is clean with aging, remains of pen. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
