ART BLAKEY and The JAZZ MESSENGERS - s/t
A impressive condition copy, with great sounding audio, of this very early press 1959 jazz rarity

Matrix numbers : BN LP 4003 A (etched) / BN LP 4003 B (etched) with "RVG" (machine stamped) and Plastylite P/"Ear" on both dead wax run out's
Nice thick, weighty and completely flat gleaming vinyl in very good plus (VG+) - bordering on excellent -condition, retaining a wonderful jet black sheen and only when viewed closely do just a few very faint and very wispy hairlines come into view on each side, along with just a couple of extremely faint scuff lines - all surface only, purely superficial and not impinging upon the excellent audio quality. Very good plus (VG+) condition labels - all text nicely intact with no unseemly marks, just some small and extremely faint spindle trails on each label, a little minor wear around the centre hole on the side 2 label, and some sporadic very light ink smudging towards the periphery of each label. Note the circular deep grooves and "47 West 63rd" text on each label - indicative of a very early Blue Note pressing. The original non-laminated laminated iconic outer sleeve is in very good plus (VG+) condition - firm edges including a rigid spine where all text remains perfectly intact. There is no scuffing on the bottom edge, just a few tiny "nicks" on the top edge and the opening edges remain firm also but with just a little fraying on the front opening edge. Each corner remains a nicely defined right angle but there is some mild rubbing on each which overspills slightly onto the top and bottom edges and the spine at each end. The reverse side 1st press "paste-on" is excellent with barely any age discolouration and "4029" has been neatly hand written just underneath the Blue Note catalogue number towards the top right corner (see photo). There are a few light storage marks towards the top edge but this is trivial, and the original "MECOLICO" and "CHAPPELL" import stamps (adding further authenticity, as if any is needed!) remain perfectly intact. Note the early pressing horizontal "43 West 61st St., New York 23" text at the bottom of the reverse side. The quality of the audio is excellent (EX) - no skips, repeats, jumps, or obvious clicks (I noticed x2 very background clicks on side 1 but could find no cause for these) and barely any crackle or interference at all - so impressive for a record of this age (though these gorgeous heavy duty 1950/60's Blue Note LP records were made to last, and they do!). Wonderful tone and clarity throughout with every track making for a fabulous listen. With LEE MORGAN on trumpet, BENNY GOLSON on tenor sax, BOBBY TIMMONS on piano, JYMIE MERRITT on bass, and the incomparable ART BLAKEY on drums these are legendary musicians at the top of their game...no wonder this is such a sought after LP. Comes with plain white die-cut inner sleeve (for postage I will insert the record into a brand new plain white, poly-lined inner sleeve). Timeless jazz - wonderful!

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
