ART BLAKEY & THE JAZZ MESSENGERS - THE BIG BEAT
A highly presentable and overall impressive condition copy, with great sounding audio, of this early 60's jazz rarity

Nice thick, weighty and completely flat vinyl in very good plus (VG+) condition, retaining an impressive jet black sheen still. In normal daylight side 1 comes across as virtually unmarked and it is only when viewed closely under a good light do just a couple of small and extremely light surface marks come into view - nothing really. Side 2 is similar in normal daylight but under a good light a few wispy hairlines are in evidence along with three very small (4-5mm each) and light, but just feelable, scratches. These result in x3 very light background clicks followed by x2 slightly more obvious clicks and x6 further very light and very background clicks...no sticking, repeats, or jumps but eleven audible (albeit mostly very background) clicks in total. To be specific, I would grade the condition of side 1 of the vinyl as excellent and side 2 as very good. Excellent (EX) condition labels - unmarked except for some small and faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each side. Note the circular deep groove on each label - indicative of very early Blue Note pressings. The original front side only laminated laminated iconic outer sleeve is in very good plus (VG+) condition - firm edges including a rigid spine where all text remains perfectly intact. There is some light (but clearly visible) edge scuffing on each of the top and bottom edges towards the corners, and the corners themselves do suffer from mild rubbing/scuffing, but the edges (including the spine) are otherwise unscuffed with just the occasional tiny "nick". There is some minor laminate vertical fraying adjacent to the opening side but otherwise the laminate remains in great shape. The "paste-on" reverse side remains excellent with just a hint of ageing towards the edges and the original export stickers remain perfectly intact. All photos and text remain excellent, and the iconic front-side photo remains as impressive as ever. The quality of the audio is excellent (EX) overall - no clicks apart from the aforementioned x11 clicks on B1, no skips, no repeats or jumps and barely any crackle or interference at all (just a hint of some very light background crackle at the very end of each side) - so impressive for a record of this age (though these gorgeous heavy duty 1960's Blue Note LP records were made to last, and they do!). Great tone and clarity throughout with every track making for a fabulous listen. With Art Blakey on drums, Lee Morgan on trumpet, Wayne Shorter on tenor sax, Bobby Timmons on piano, and Jamie Merritt on bass it is little wonder this is such a sought after LP with each jazz "great" at the top of his game". Comes complete with poly lined "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" inner sleeve - still fully functional even under all of these years. Timeless jazz - wonderful!

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
