This is a 1967 acetate Emidisc of the single “For What It’s Worth” for Island Records by the 1967 band ART

Written by Stephen Stills of Buffalo Springfield, “For What It’s Worth” was released in July 1967 by Island Records (WIP6019) on the pink island label and in a pink paper sleeve

The single was re-released in February 1975 (WIP6224) on the ‘Tropical Island’ 1970’s label

 Produced by Guy Stevens "For What It's Worth" was arguably better than the original version by Buffalo Springfield, certainly heavier, and appeared as the second track on side one of Supernatural Fairy Tales, the only album released by the band. Stevens, of later acclaim to The Clash's 1979 album London Calling, died on 29 August 1981 at the age of 38 years old, having overdosed on the prescription drugs he was taking to reduce his alcohol dependency.

 Short-lived, Art was a re-named band formerly known as The V.I.P.'s. The V.I.P.'s were a British R&B musical ensemble formed in Carlisle, Cumberland, (North West England) in late 1963, out of an earlier outfit known as The Ramrods, who had formed in Carlisle in 1960. With no tangible success, the band became known as 'Art' and released Supernatural Fairy Tales

The album contains mostly band compositions plus a cover of The Young Rascals' "Come on Up" and, the second track on Side 1, Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth", The band split up in April 1967 but all members of Art sooner or later met again in Spooky Tooth.

 Personnel and Rock milestones:

 Luther Grosvenor - guitars - The years with Spooky Tooth (1967 to 1970), Stealers Wheel (1973) and Mott the Hoople (1973 to 1974) were the most successful years in his musical career.

 Mike Harrison - vocals, keyboards - ex Dino and the Danubes, The Dakotas, The Ramrods. "The voice behind Spooky Tooth". Continued with a successful career as a solo artist.

 Mike Kellie - drums, percussion - Kellie has also played with Peter Frampton and in various bands with Chris Wood.

Greg Ridley - bass guitar - ex Dino and the Danubes, The Dakotas. In January 1969 Ridley was approached by Steve Marriott from the Small Faces who was forming a new band, called Humble Pie. The line up also included guitarist Peter Frampton.
