Description

ART (Spooky Tooth) ''SUPERNATURAL FAIRYTALES'' ORIGINAL 'UK' (PINK RIM) LABELS! CAT No. ILP.967 MEGA RARE IN ((MONO))

NEAR PERFECT MONO AUDIO! AWESOME UNLAMINATED 1ST ISSUE COVER!! A-1U B-2U MATRIX ENDINGS LOOK ''1'' to ''1'' MOTHER STAMPERS!!!

Another from my personal collection! Impossibly rare, and very, very hard to find original UK pressing of this awesome 1967 psychadelic, progressive rock album Supernatural Fairytales! This album on offer is the early 1970s issue on the Island pink rimed labels. This would be the 2nd pressing, originally released on the Island labels with the red eye logo very rarely turn up for sale. What makes this album so desirable is that it is the original ((mono)) pressing also to find this  'UK' variation is virtually impossible to find, if they turn up they are nearly always German pressings with the pink rim variation. I have play tested the vinyl prior to listing and it is truly awesome throughout,, real deep bassey feel with plenty of depth and dynamics, audio graded at least excellent plus in my opinion! (no) clicks or pops during the audio, unbeleivably rare to find! This is complete with the original blue Island record sleeve and (Same as 1st issue) unlaminated cover both in excellent plus condition! Mega impossible to find like this ,highly collectable and sought after by any avid Art/ Spooky Tooth or Psychadelic 60s early 70s collectors!

The V.I.P.'s were a British R&B musical ensemble formed in Carlisle, Cumberland, (North West England) in late 1963, out of an earlier outfit known as The Ramrods, who had formed in Carlisle in 1960. After the release of their only album, Supernatural Fairy Tales, as Art, the band split up in April 1967!.

The band members were: Mike Harrison (lead vocals) (ex Dino and the Danubes, The Dakotas, The Ramrods); Greg Ridley (bass guitar) (ex Dino and the Danubes, The Dakotas); Frank Kenyon (rhythm guitar) (1963–67) (born 12 October 1945, Carlisle) (ex The Teenages, The Ramrods); Jimmy Henshaw (lead guitar) (1963–67) (born James Henshaw, 20 October 1941, Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland died 1 May 2007, Carlisle) (ex The Ramrods); Keith Emerson (electric organ) (1966–1967); Luther Grosvenor (lead guitar) (1967); Walter Johnstone (drummer) (1963–67) (born 11 March 1943, Carlisle) (ex The Teenages, The Ramrods); and Mike Kellie (drummer) (1967).

With no tangible success, the band became later known as 'Art' (who released one album, Supernatural Fairy Tales) and then as Spooky Tooth. One of the V.I.P.'s singles was produced by Derek Lawrence, whereas all the Island Records single releases were produced by Guy Stevens!!.

Supernatural Fairy Tales is the only LP by Art, a re-named band formerly known as The V.I.P.'s. The album contains mostly band compositions plus a cover of The Young Rascals' "Come on Up" and Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth". All members of Art sooner or later met again in Spooky Tooth!!

The Vinyl

this is the original thick and chunky heavier type of vinyl with deeper grooves! Later press were much more flimsier and much less robust. The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping!

On initial ibnspection the vinyl looks awesome!,, still retaining its original sheen from new! Looking at the vinyl under very strong light reveals some surface marks\scuffs amaizingly these have very little effect on the awesome audio quality,, at least do not cause any loud clicks or pops on my systems!

The Audio Quality

I have played this album at very high volume on a top system  three times prior to this listing,,importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge!! The audio is absolutely awesome through out! (no) signs of any distortion or that this has been overplayed at all! I heard (no) loud clicks or pops and certainly (no) skips or jumps! The audio is cristal clear and vibrant throughout with stunningly vibrant bassey feel ! Please note! Please allow for the odd very light static tick\crackle mainly only heard in between tracks only  (not) consistant throughout the audio!   I must emphisise that the audio is awesome and it will be hard to surpass for an original 42 year old vinyl! I would class myself as highly critical please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! Top! Top! audio on all frequencies!! This audio must grade at least Excellent plus in my opinion! even played at loud volume!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality! Please allow for the odd static crackle\ticks here and there, (not) consistant throughout the audio! Remember that this is a genuine 42 year old vinyl that would have originaly been played on a 42 year old system!!!

Important note! This vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 25 years or more! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static ticks\crackle A constant clean before each play is recomended! This will reduce any static crackle and enhance the  audio quality! (It is noted that I could see debrit on the playing surface after play)

The labels

These feature the original 1st issued 'PINK RIM'  Island labels (only 2ND press) and are absolutely superbe! with  limited amount of spidering that can only be seen angled in light! (This has obviously been played by not overplayed in my opinion)

The Record Sleeve

This is the original Blue  Island record sleeve no splits or tares superbe original!

The Cover

This is the original 1st issue unlaminated cover. In truly superbe condition. no splits or tares no real storageware worth to mention. any rubbing ware is extreemely minimal and not noticable unless scrutinised. I can not emphisise enough at how hard these covers are to find like this! The cover has always been stored seperated from the sleeve and cover which has obviously preserved thisd awesome cover. This must grade at least excellent plus in my opinion!

On 10-May-11 at 00:53:12 BST, seller added the following information:

Please Note! There is an error in my description! The cover is the 2nd issue correct for this variation and not the 1st issue which was indeed laminated. I apologize for this error. Also, I would like to add that the cover has no real main creases just light corner bumping at the front corner near the spine! Thank you.
