Another from my personal collection! Original 1st UK pressing and in mono of Arthur Crudups ''Mean Ole Frisco album! This album rarely ever turns up for sale, especially in mono like this! Stunning early thick and chunky vinyl boasts of barely ever been played at all! I play tested thwe vinyl before this listing and importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge! This plays through cristal clear and very vibrant throughout! The cover is also truly in exceptional condition for an original (normally seen badly worn)

Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup (August 24, 1905 – March 28, 1974) was an American Delta blues singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is best known outside blues circles for writing songs such as "That's All Right" (1946), "My Baby Left Me" and "So Glad You're Mine", later covered by Elvis Presley and dozens of other artists!

Arthur Crudup was born in Forest, Mississippi, United States. For a time he lived and worked throughout the South and Midwest as a migrant worker. He and his family returned to Mississippi in 1926. He sang gospel, then began his career as a blues singer around Clarksdale, Mississippi. As a member of the Harmonizing Four he visited Chicago in 1939. Crudup stayed in Chicago to work as a solo musician, but barely made a living as a street singer. Record producer Lester Melrose allegedly found him while he was living in a packing crate, introduced him to Tampa Red and signed him to a recording contract with RCA Victor's Bluebird label.

He recorded with RCA in the late 1940s and with Ace Records, Checker Records and Trumpet Records in the early 1950s and toured throughout the country, specifically black establishments in the South, with Sonny Boy Williamson II and Elmore James (around 1948). He also recorded under the names Elmer James and Percy Lee Crudup. He was popular in the South with records such as "Mean Old 'Frisco Blues", "Who's Been Foolin' You" and "That's All Right".

Crudup stopped recording in the 1950s, however, after further battles over royalties. His last Chicago session was in 1951. His 1952-54 recording sessions for Victor were held at radio station WGST in Atlanta, Georgia. He returned to recording with Fire Records and Delmark Records and touring in 1965. Sometimes labeled as "The Father of Rock and Roll", he accepted this title with some bemusement. Ungratified due to the loss of royalties, he would refer to his admirer Presley as 'Elvin Preston'. Throughout this time Crudup worked as a laborer to augment the non-existent royalties and the small wages he received as a singer. Crudup returned to Mississippi after a dispute with Melrose over royalties, then went into bootlegging, and later moved to Virginia where he had lived and worked as a musician and laborer. In the early 1970s, two local Virginia activists, Celia Santiago and Margaret Carter, assisted him in an attempt to gain royalties he felt he was due, with little success.

From the mid 1960s, Crudup returned to bootlegging and working as an agricultural laborer, chiefly in Virginia, where he lived with his family including three sons and several of his own siblings.

 On the Eastern Shore of Virginia, while he lived in relative poverty as a field laborer, he occasionally sang and supplied moonshine to a number of drinking establishments, including one called the Dew Drop Inn, in Northampton County for some time prior to his death from complications of heart disease and diabetes. On a 1970 trip to the UK he recorded Roebuck Man with local musicians. His last professional engagements were with Bonnie Raitt.

There was some confusion as to his actual date of death because of his use of several names, including those of his siblings. He died of a heart attack in the Nassawadox hospital in Northampton County, Virginia in March 1974.

Crudup was honored with a marker on the Mississippi Blues Trail placed at Forest.

The Vinyl

On initial inspection the vinyl looks awesome retaining its original mirror like sheen and it is hard to notice a blemish! Thicker and chunky slab of vinyl only found on 1st pressings like this! The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warps. Only in very strong light can possibly be seen very few and minor blemishes mainly sleeve removal scuffs only importantly there are no marks that cause any loud clicks or pops at all!!

The Audio Quality

I have very carefully played this vinyl two times at very loud volume on a top system! The audio is trully stunning, cristal clear and very vibrant throughout awesome seperation clear and very vibrant throughout, Without any distortion or signs that this has been over played at all! There was no loud clicks or pops and certainly (no) skips or jumps! Any isolated static that may be heard is extreemely minimal indeed There was nothing in my opinion that spoilt the overall enjoyment of this awesome sounding vinyl! The audio is graded at least excellent plus to very near as perfect on my systems in my opinion, absolutely stunning for a 43 year old vinyl! I would class myself as highly critical when it comes down to the audio quality, Please look at my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normaly get it right!!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for very light isolated static/crackle/tick that may be heard in isolated quiet places or in between tracks but not consistant throughout the audio. Please remember that this is a genuine 43 year old vinyl that would have originaly been played on a 43 year old system!!

A constant cleaning before each play is recomended because this vinyl has been stored laying dormant in a case for over 35 years and a build up of dirt and dust causes static crackle/ticks cleaning will reduce this and enhance the ausdio quality.

The Labels

These are the original (Textured) Blue Horizon labels in superbe condition for over 40 years old (see photos) ''Made in England'' is featured (only UK Press) Any spidering can just barely be seen angled to the light only. There is little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round, it is quite obvious that this vinyl has had only minimal play only, perhapes just a handful of plays in my opinion it has barely been played!

The Record Sleeve

This is plain white poly lined sleeve without splits or tares!

The Cover

This is the original 1st issue un- laminated  cover! This cover is truly superbe condition for being over 40 years old, normally seen very badly worn.  Amaizingly there are no real creases worth to mention  There is (no) splits or tares there is minor general rubbing ware only at the edges and at the spine only really noticable if scrutinised When angled to the light there are very small scuffs spots that can be seen and slight indentation mark from where someone has leant on this at some time. This cover must grade at least excellent in my opinion, very hard to find like this!
