ARTHUR “BIG BOY” CRUDUP – “THAT’S ALL RIGHT” / “CRUDUP’S AFTER HOURS” – 1949 PRESSING
Here is a wonderful piece of blues and rock & roll history—Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup’s original recording of “That’s All Right,” backed with “Crudup’s After Hours,” issued in 1949.
Crudup’s “That’s All Right” would become one of the most historically important blues recordings of its era. Five years later, in July 1954, a young Elvis Presley walked into Sun Studio in Memphis and recorded his own version of the song. That recording became Elvis’s first commercial single, backed with “Blue Moon of Kentucky,” and helped launch a career that would forever change popular music.
That makes this 1949 Arthur Crudup record much more than an early blues collectible—it represents one of the direct links between postwar Delta blues and the birth of rock & roll.
The flip side, “Crudup’s After Hours,” gives collectors another excellent example of Crudup’s raw, distinctive blues style.
For collectors of early blues, Elvis Presley, Sun Records, or the origins of rock & roll, this is a particularly meaningful record to own. Long before Elvis became the King of Rock & Roll, Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup had already recorded the song that helped start it all.
A genuine piece of American music history—and a terrific addition to any serious blues or early rock & roll collection.
