From my own vast private collection gathered over last 45+ years ...these mostly from 1973 - 1978 I had my own Record Store here in Northern California in the 1970's and 80's -and bringing in wonderfully vibrant and amazing Progressive Rock Imports was a top specialty and priority - I was (still am) so nuts about this music that I had 3 different evolving weekly Radio Programs dedicated to it over 20 years - and loved nothing more than turning folks on to these bands and immersing myself and my audience in these exotic sounds. Now it is finally time for me to pass them on - my hardest LPs to part with, some 8 boxes of which I shall be listing throughout this Spring. Many of the leading progenitors of the 1st progressive era, but quite a few more obscure but no less amazing artists of the period. . *Sadly I am NOT FAST at listing and can am lucky to get around 50 up at a time, but they will keep on coming (as I pause between series, to focus on top level packing and immediate shipping) so keep checking back.

Beautifully clean, high gloss vinyl shows some extremely light sleeve marks/hairlines under hard bright light that are almost entirely inaudible. LP plays EX+ to NM throughout. Labels are.

COVER is VG/VG+
Soft, fragile matte Gatefold cover has some general mild surface wear and minor scuffing plus a few indentations. Would be solid VG+ except for very noticeable u.r. front corner crease and lower corner wear Seams and spine have few spots of wear but no splits.

Originally released as an Ash Ra Tempel LP on short-lived French label Isadora in late 1976, New Age Of Earth was soon picked up by Virgin Records and re-released under the Ashra moniker the following year.
New Age Of Earth is an underrated electronic/ambient masterpiece that deserves to sit in the mellow end of the premier krautrock pool alongside Cluster's Zuckerzeit, Popol Vuh's In Den Garten Pharaos and Eno, Roedelius & Moebius's After The Heat. The Peter Baumann-era Tangerine Dream had become a major influence at this point, but Gottsching creates a warmer sound to replace the grandiosity that permeates some of Edgar Froese's work.
Considered by long-time connoisseurs of top electronic music to be one of the most influential and all-time classics of the genre, New Age of Earth set a tone that, at the time, had very large ripples throughout electronic music.
Opener Sunrain is Gottsching's first foray into the proto-electronic trance sound that he would later fully explore on 1984's E2-E4*. By far the liveliest track on the album, undulating synth lines weave through to create a mesmerizing sonic landscape that presages early Orbital. Listening to second track Ocean Of Tenderness feels like slipping into a hot bath at the end of a long day, massaging your temporal lobes to perfection. After a long intro of bubbling and drifting synths, a gentle but insistent guitar rhythm slips quietly into the scene to propel things along. When a Hawaiin guitar drifts in around the eight-minute mark it is clear that this is something truly special, above and beyond other early attempts at ambient soundscapes - and leagues apart from the often mindless "New Age" music that would proliferate for years, in it's wake.
Deep Distance is more playful, again built around the gentle but insistent pull of a simple guitar motif, with dreamy melodies drifting in and out over the top. Gottsching's interest in Tangerine Dream is most noticeable on the track that fills side two, Nightdust, a beautiful 21-minute drift through space that meanders like TD at their most locked-in - and featuring no recognisable guitar at all until the final three minutes.
The title was more prophetic than most ...but let's be clear: at the time there WAS no such classification of music yet known as "New Age". That this name would catch and be used to define an ultimately spurious and generally watered-down form of ambient music - both acoustically and electronically , starting to suddenly spread worldwide, is rather an undeserved albatross that should not be hung around the neck of this LP. While some of that ...new age... music to emerge in the wake of this LP was quite good, there was far too much drivel and a glut of talentless noodlers with all manner of navel-gazing, yoga-bliss pap coming out every week through the late 1980s, labeled "New Age". We survived it; those brave enough to dig through the mountains of nothingness in that category would find a few true gems ...but overall, the mere mention of "New Age" now scares the pants off of any serious electronic / ambient music lover. That has nothing to do with Manuel Göttsching, Ash Ra Tempel, or this LP. Göttsching, for his part, was properly aghast - and to his credit, chose to completely sit-out that entire span - from 1981 through 1989 he released no music at all, except for the excellent *"E2-E4" released in 1984, but recorded back in 1981.An absolute Must Have foundation of any Electronic / Ambient/ Space Music collection
