ASHFORD & SIMPSON

Bourgie Bourgie (reissue)

Groovin Italy

12" Cat: GR 12138
Rel: 17 Aug 26
Disco/Nu Disco/Re-Edits Side 1 - Track 1. Bourgie Bourgie Side 1 - Track 2. Bourgie Bourgie (A Director's cut Exclusive) Side 2. Bourgie Bourgie (Joe Claussell Classic mix)

Like it or not - and, oddly, it has long polarised opinions - Ashford & Simpson's 'Bourgie Bourgie' is one of the most well-regarded and expansive epics of the disco era -a heavily orchestrated delight underpinned by fast-fingered bass and loose-limbed live drums. On this Groovin' Records reissue, the celebrated soul and disco duo's original version comes backed with two later, house-era remixes. There's a sublime, piano-powered splash of peak-time deep house-meets-disco colour from Director's Cut aka Eric Kupper and the late Frankie Knuckles and an epic, 11-minute 'Classic mix' from Body & Soul NYC resident Joaquin 'Joe' Claussell. In typical fashion, he delivers a blend of Afro-Latin percussion, spiritual house grooves, deep house musicality and plenty of instrumentation from the original disco mix. As remixes go, it's simply stunning.
