Description

This is "ASYLUM" the original 1971 UK issue LP by CRESSIDA

You can read more about this LP and the band's history on their wikipedia page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cressida_(progressive_rock_band)

It is the original version issued in the UK in 1971 on the highly collectable VERTIGO 'swirl' label, number 6360 025.

It is a unique copy of this highly collectable album as the inside cover was autographed by the lead guitarist, John Heyworth.

It is a very early UK 1st press which was purchased immediately on its release in 1971 and features the very 1st pressing "VO PRODUCT CODE " on the back cover,

and has the following matrix numbers/mothers/stampers:

Side 1:  6360 025 1Y#1  420  1 1 1

Side 2:  6360 025 2Y#1  420  1 1 1

VINYL:

Record is MINT-, a truely stunning visual copy with no marks or scratches, a very clean shiny example.

The label has 2 very feint spindle marks that are only visible under a bright light, otherwise I would have had no hesitation in grading as MINT.

The vinyl plays superbly, no pops or bangs, quiet between tracks, and plays like a new record -  incredible for a record that is 40 years.

Musically it still sounds fresh after all these years, a really nice mellow sound, featuring tasteful use of mellotron, a distinctive guitar sound amd also some cool jazzy moments.

 THE AUTOGRAPH:

John Heyworth was briefly in my friend's band after he left Cressida, and he signed his autograph inside the gatefold of this cover - see expanded picture of signature.

My friend's band also featured David O'List (ex-NICE) as a 2nd lead guitarist! The band rehearsed, but sadly did not do any gigs.

I've looked at ebay sales of this LP over the last few years, and have never seen an autographed copy.

COVER:

The cover is a gatefold and is VG+,  There is some general handling and storage wear on the front and back cover as the cover for this album was not laminated.

There are a couple of small black speckled marks on each of the front, inner and back cover, which I have not attempted to clean off, as the cover is not laminated - see pictures.

There are 2 crescents of slight ringwear on the back cover.

There is slight wear on the corners, and to a lesser extent the top and bottom edges.

Otherwise there is just a small area of wear at the top left on the back cover.

The spine is in excellent shape, the label name, title and number are all clearly visible.

INNER SLEEVE:

The inner sleeve is the VERTIGO original, and features the vertigo swirl, and is intact with no damage, just the usual ageing marks round the edges.

The record will be packed in a stiff package specifically designed for sending vinyl through the post, with added protection on the corners.
