ReFantazio hears the Altus Sound Team break from well-trodden signal paths with a sprawling, politically fraught fantasy epic; drenched in themes of upheaval, idealism and collective anxiety, the namesake game's story lands closer to present-day tensions than most high-fantasy fare, while its battle system refines the studio's JRPG pedigree into something sharp and urgent. But just as striking is the game's music: a dizzying, cross-continental soundtrack sung partly in Esperanto and even chanted by a Buddhist monk. For this 4xLP edition, iam8bit and the Atlus Sound Team handpicked highlights from the score and mastered them for vinyl, each disc pressed in colours representing members of the game's cast.
