Atomic Rooster : Death Walks Behind You A-1U / B-1U 1st Press 1970
This first pressing plays with stunning quality on both sides and with no actual interference as you can see from track by track description below. The power and depth of the audio is phenomenal and with only a small number of very quiet minor statics the clarity of sound is sensational. I mean S1 is superb but S2 is just out of this world! This is a vinyl that has been so well preserved and the stunning visual quality of the surface reflects that. It could hardly play any better, the kind of sonic quality you only get from a hardly played record. I would go so far as to say this is a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic. By the way I sold one a couple of months back and this one has to be an upgrade on that one, it's not the same one that I am re-selling!
The E.J. Day cover is in superb condition and for those in the know they will know how rare that is. It is so often found with a lot of fading / spotting but there is only a very minimal amount here. STUNNING! It has held its original shape and structure so well and again you can tell it has hardly been handled. The original inner sleeve is also in excellent condition.

Visual description
The vinyl is in fantastic condition and has clearly been hardly played. It has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches and even when I look under a bright light I cannot see any obvious hairlines. No not so obvious ones either! There is no groove or surface wear, no 'bag-rash', and the B & C labels are very clean with only a little spotting on the S1 label.
Play Grading
The quiet piano intro on 'Death Walks Behind You' plays with stunning clarity, there are only a couple of minor statics at the very start, and Cann's guitar 'feedback' section is of the same quality. As Hammond comes in the audio is so strong and deep and Crane's opening vocal section is of the highest standard also. It continues in the same precise way and the following instrumental is superb! The quieter piano mid section again shows how well this vinyl has been preserved with no interference as such and only a handful of insignificant light statics. As the volume increases the power and depth of the audio is unrivalled and this standard is kept up to the very end. A couple of minor statics that is all and the long fade plays with remarkable clarity, there is no background at all. From start to finish there are no clicks or pops and whilst the vast majority plays as Mint I will grade as Near Mint due to the small amount of statics which are totally non-intrusive anyway.
'Vug' then plays with phenomenal power and definition through every section. There is no intrusion and it demands to be turned up to max of course! The musicianship is superb and there is no distortion on the top end. A genuine classic prog instrumental and it plays with impeccable precision throughout, there is no faulting the clarity and Mint is richly deserved.
The intro on 'Tomorrow Night' is perfect and the opening vocal passage is just as impressive. The instrumental bridge is flawless and the next vocal has no background either. The sonic quality in my opinion is equal to how it would have sounded back in '70. Hammond's drum work is superb Cann's guitar, especially on the end section, is stunning. A quiet final few seconds and no background of any kind. A Mint version.
The organ intro on '7 Streets' has three static sound, with only the first one being 'obvious', and the following high powered section could not play any better. The opening vocal is very strong and it continues to play with no interference. Being the final track and a powerful one at that you would expect some inner groove distortion but it is kept to a minimum. The high octane mid instrumental is a prime example - stunning audio quality and no distortion to my ears. The remainder is very clean also and overall I believe Near Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intro on 'Sleeping For Years' is superb, Cann's work is so impressive he really could play! With only a couple of statics it is as close to perfect as is possible and the following instrumental plays with supreme power and depth also. The opening vocal section is 'as new' and the mid instrumental is on the same level. The sonic quality truly is STUNNING and Cann's exemplary guitar work deserves another mention. Outstanding solo work and the final vocal / closing instrumental can also be described 'as new'. This is an exceptional version - the audio is so clean and powerful and Mint is deserved at the very least.
The intro on 'I Can't Take No More' has no background and the opening vocal is just as impressive. Once again the lack of any background is the stand out feature and the clarity of sound is of the highest calibre. It continues to play with such deep, rich audio and Crane's bass is the driving force behind that. A pristine version basically and the long fade out / vocal 'finale' both plays with perfect clarity. A superb Mint version in every sense.
The long piano intro on 'Nobody Else' plays beautifully with only a couple of barely audible statics, I cannot overstate just how well it plays, wow! Let's not forget this record is 55 years old! The opening vocal plays with stunning clarity and warmth and the instrumental section keeps up the standard with tremendous power and depth. The final quiet vocal / instrumental have no interference either and overall this has to grade as Mint- it is an exceptional version.
The opening instrumental on 'Gershatzer' is immense! The power and definition of the audio is comparable to an unplayed record and the following piano piece is just as clean. The quieter instrumental soon follows and it plays with wonderful clarity and as it progresses I just cannot fault it. There is no interference and as the volume increases the sonic quality is on another level! There is no inner groove distortion and Hammond's drum solo is unbelievably clean and powerful. The closing instrumental is of the same high end quality and from start to finish this has to grade as Mint- and even then I'm not sure the minus is necessary. It is the most 'complete' version I have ever heard.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
This is a superb example of this E.J. Day matt textured cover. So often found in poor condition this one is so clean and has stood the test of time so well. It has very little of the fading / spotting that you regularly find around the perimeter edges of the front and back cover and the top and bottom edges are extremely clean also. The spine remains strong and wide with only minimal rubbing on the bottom corner although the 'print' is a little misplaced - a little wraps around the back cover, a minor manufacturing error. The other corners have have barely any wear and the opening edge has only a couple of minor indents. The front cover is in lovely condition with only minimal faint spotting near the bottom edge and one small indent near the top right corner and the back cover is even better! It is stunning with only one small 'rub' in the bottom left corner and the inside of the gatefold is so clean with hardly any fading around the edges and just one very small scuff in the top left corner. It would be difficult to find a better one!
The original Plastic bags... inner (dated 0470) is in excellent condition with no side splits and just one minor tear on the central aperture. There is very little marking, a few small spots on the reverse side the main thing, and only a little creasing here and there.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Many thanks.
All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
