AUDIO SYMPHONY, Check Up Your Sounds, Volume 1 - Rca RVL-1 - Japanese Pressing with Book - ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!

One of the finest orchestral demonstration recordings on the planet, AUDIO SYMPHONY is intriguing in its concept.

On side 1, it presents in four movements, a symphony composed by Koichi Sugiyama specifically to evaluate sound.

The first movement delivers the full power of the orchestra, the second provides texture and minute detail in the playing of solo flute with strings, the third demonstrates the reverberation of sustained notes, while the fourth is a great test of transients, what with plucked strings, percussive attacks, etc. (The end of this side also has YOUNG WHEAT, composed for voice and full orchestra, to complete our test, this one great for localization.)

All this is explained in the splendid book enclosed, that actually supplies the score, with recording and listening notations to help you listen along.

Side 2 proves even more interesting, by first recording instruments in a dry anechoic environment, then in a hall, to help one hear the differences tonally. (By the way, the bass drum here is a great test for locating a sub-woofer in your listening room so that it doesn't sound muddy, which this recording is NOT.)

Other instruments under examination for tonality and attack are drums, hyoshigi, xylophone, piano, biwa, violin, trumpet, tenor sax, and flute.

A fabulous idea, wonderfully recorded throughout, in an edition with a jacket that is crisp, like new. Inside, the book is perfect and the very well-pressed platter near mint, if not better.

Audiophile fun that should not be missed.
