"Don Ewell needs no introduction to true jazz lovers.  His piano is some of the very finest we have heard and we think his "Michigan Water Blues" is truly classic.  He is supported in wonderful style by Nappy Trottier on the trumpet on some numbers, and Marty Grosz and Earl Murphy play guitar and bass viol respectively."  From the 1970 Audiophile Catalog

ALBUM DESCRIPTION & HISTORY: Part of an extensive collection of great American Jazz, Rock and Classical LP Records I purchased over the years.  Very quiet surfaces on this near pristine, late summer, 1963 mono recording. Please note that this is a limited (almost non-commercial) production and is quite rare.

No Reserve 7 Day Auction.

EVALUATION...

COVER: The album cover is clean in appearance with semi glossy, bright saturated inks.  It shows edge wear on the bottom with a short split seam and wear to the corner tips. The spine is excellent as is the front and back, very nice!   Packed professionally in sturdy carton with vinyl placed outside of Album Cover for safe undamaged arrival.

SOUND: Beautiful, red shiny vinyl with spectacular audiophile grade sound. According to Larry Forbes, who wrote about Nunn for The Absolute Sound magazine in 1985, Nunn's recordings have all of the "qualities of classic analogue."  The album shows some minor cosmetic wear to the vinyl but it plays on both sides with very little (if any) ticks or pops.  This is an important recording in the art of record making, especially as found within the grooves of this remarkable mono release.  Nunn's effort (generally)  is considered by many to be a benchmark in audio recording. He gets a natural, full bodied, transparent and open sound accompanied by a sense of three dimensionality. All instruments sound natural without being falsely bright, especially the trumpet.   As mentioned, very few if any ticks or pops are to be heard with a clean undistorted (awesome) sound.  The Spindle hole is perfectly centered and the labels are near pristine.  Of course, the signature transparent red vinyl utilized by Nunn, is beautiful.  The logo on all of Nunn's records was the word Audiophile.  Note that the character ‘h’ is in the form of a musical note. The bottom of the note is centered (precisely) on the hole in the middle of the label.  See photos.

These 33.3 RPM records have been well taken care of (properly stored) since purchased and has been kept upright in a dry, temperature regulated Lp record library.  They should, upon your playback, achieve quiet surfaces and terrific vintage sound!  We are audiophiles and are completely familiar with the lore of records and the technical requirements for superior playback.  Recommended as a used record of impeccable vintage sound.
