Title: Esther Ofarim - Esther

This is the ultrarare original German first pressing from 1972 on HÖR ZU, SHZE 367, stereo. It has been manufactured by EMI/COLUMBIA for the German “Hör Zu”-magazine, ”Special Manufacture by EMI/ELECTROLA” is printed inside the gatefold-cover. It is defenitely much rarer than the later ATR-edition and its sound is absolutely incredible ! The beautiful, matt and a little textured gatefold-sleeve is very sensitive and therefore most of the time in pretty bad used shape - this copy’s cover is better. The rare insert is included, most of the time it is missing. The insert is LP-sized and it is also a gatefold with sensitive, textured paper, it includes the complete lyrics.

Line-up: Esther Ofarim/vocals - Erich Ferstl/guitar,producer,arranger & artistic director - Chamber Orchestra of Munich Philharmonic.

Tracks: side 1: La Vezina Catin - Ziunionei Haderech - La Scillitana - Leil Galil – Pamparapam - Pavane

side 2: Kinderspiele – Rataplan - El Rey Nimrod - Hayu Leiloth - Nique Nac No Muse - Una Matica De Ruda.

E.Ofarim’s first album is one of the most beautiful female vocal recordings ever made. She sings in German, English, French, Italian, Hebrew and Ladino. Esther’s voice is heard in a variety of settings: from intimate duos with just an acoustic guitar accompanying her via small line-ups to full orchestra. Great dynamics, specially the percussions sound awesome on this one: the orchestral tympani, the turkish drums etc. Highly recommended ! I also offer a mint copy of the original 1979 ATR-edition in my current auctions .

Condition: side one looks mint- to mint-- in daylight, only under a real strong light you will see a few papersleeve-lines, it plays in mint- ; side 2 looks basically the same but has one superficial, non-feelable and non-audible scuff, it plays in mint- all of the time except for a few seconds on one track playing in ex. I've strictly playgraded the complete LP.

The cover has the number “7” written in the lower right corner on the front, there are a few tiny spots on the front besides the little “e” in Esther, the fronts upper right corner is a little bended. All seams and the spine are intact, the seams have slight rub, only the lower front seam shows a little more rub in one part only. The inner of the gatefold-cover and the back are real fine. Overall I grade the cover vg++.

The gatefold-insert is clean with sharp edges, it shows just a few tiny creases and is in ex++.

Grading & Cleaning:

  • the record has been cleaned on my professional HANNL record cleaning machine

  • after that I playgraded it (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN:TU-3 Super Fine Line ( please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment )

  • I also visually graded the record under a strong light

  • only an unplayed record is mint, the highest grading for a used record is mint- ! My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg.

  • cleaned records are stored in a new deluxe innersleeve and they are placed in a new PVC protection-sleeve !
