Title: Tarentule / Tarentelle – G.Paniagua & Atrium Musicae De Madrid

Original French pressing from 1976 on HARMONIA MUNDI, HM 379. Gatefold-cover includes extensive linernotes in French, German & English. The “Atrium Musicae De Madrid” under the direction of Gregorio Paniagua performs music of the 16th & 17th century dealing with a strange phenomenon : the “ tarantism” or “tarantulism”, wich was at that time considered to be a desease caused by the sting of the Tarantula spider, wich appears quite often in the region of the Italian city of Taranto. Among the symptoms was an irresistible urge to dance with frenetic agitation wich could only be cured by music with fast rhythmical beat, shrill timbre etc. in a sometimes “ diabolic “ way. These music-from became to be known as the Tarantella.

This recording is absolutely amazing concerning immediacy, completeness and sonics. You can hear just everything of the recording, making the renaissance instruments sound 100 % alive, as only a few recordings do.

Condition: the record looks ex/ex++ with just a few superficial signs of use only to be seen under a strong light. Due to many moments of silence and the low character of the music I've listened to the complete record: side 1 play in mint-/mint--. Side 2 has 5 low tics in between tracks 2 and 3 , when there is no music, the rest of this side also plays in mint- to mint--.

The foldout-cover has intact seams/spine; front, back and inner are fine with just a hint of slightest shelfwear, overall mint--.

Zustand: dies ist eine von 3 Originalausgaben der legendären LPs von G.Paniagua auf Harmonia Mundi, die ich in meinen Auktionen anbiete. Diesmal geht es um die “Tarantella”-Musik der Renaissance-Zeit, eine wilde Tanzmusik die zur Heilung des angeblich vom Stich der Tarantel-Spinne ausgelösten “Tarantulismus” eingesetzt wurde. So geschehen in der Region der italienischen Stadt Tarent, die als Namensgeber fungiert.

Die LP ist optisch in ex/ex++ mit nur ganz wenigen unter hellem Licht erkennbaren Gebrauchsspuren; ich habe die LP nochmal komplett angehört, denn es gibt sehr viele Moment der Stille, die Musik ist durchgehend eher leise und die authentische audiophile Aufnahme verbirgt keinerlei Mängel: Seite 1 spielt in mint-/mint--, auf Seite 2 sind 5 leise tics zwischen dem 2. und 3. Stück, ansonsten spielt auch diese Seite in mint-/mint--. Das Klappcover ist sehr schön erhalten, insgesamt mint--. alle Platten habe ich professionell gereinigt und angehört (meist ganz, manchmal in Ausschnitten). Kommen mit neuer Außen- & Innenhülle !

Grading & Cleaning:

• the record has been cleaned on my professional HANNL record cleaning machine

• after that I playgraded it (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN:TU-3 Super Fine Line ( please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment )

• I also visually graded the record under a strong light

• only an unplayed record is mint, the highest grading for a used record is mint- ! My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg.

• cleaned records are stored in a new deluxe innersleeve and they are placed in a new PVC protection-sleeve !
