Original US-pressing from 1988 on WILSON AUDIO SPECIALITIES, W-8823. The people involved in this LP read like a “who's who” of the audiophile sector :

- moral support by Harry Pearson ( The Absolute Sound magazine )

- matrix by Sheffield Lab

- Power Amp Spectral DMA 50 designed by Professor Keith Johnson of Reference recordings etc.

Rightfully on the TAS-list, considered by all high-end aficionados worldwide to be one of the best recordings ever in the Classical genre. To quote the text on the cover: WILSON AUDIOPHILE, Definitive Recording, Pure Analog, ” It just doesn't get much better than this ! ”

Tracks: side 1:

1. Liberty Fanfare ( 4:14 ) John Williams/Curnow

Liberty Fanfare was composed for the centennial celebration of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. This fanfare set the stage for one of the most spectacular celebrations in America’s history .

2. Commando March (3:29) Samuel Barber

Composed in 1943, “Commando March” represents Barber’s first band work. Written in a quadruple meter, the composition utilizes the constant contrast of dotted and triplet rhythms while the melody is presented four times in different orchestrations.

3. Festive Fanfare March (5:11) R.Nixon

Festive Fanfare March, the third in his series of fanfare marches, received the Ostwald Award in composition by the American Bandmasters Association in 1973. It is a work that is technical, bright in color, and effervescent in Spirit.

4. Victory at Sea (10:14) Richard Rogers/Bennett

Victory at Sea was among the most watched and respected television series in the history of that medium. Richard Rodgers composed the music for the twenty-six half hour episodes. Robert Russell Bennett, the unsurpassed arranger of the time, arranged the music giving it the color and feeling that matched the pictures. Thus we have thirteen hours of music that captures the emotional dimension of war at sea. This arrangement by Bennett samples highlights from those episodes, communicating that which neither camera or word could convey.

Side 2:

1.El Camino Real (10:07) Alfred Reed

El Camino Real, which literally means “The Kings Highway”, bears the subtitle “A Latin Fantasy”. The piece was completed in 1985. The first section of music is based on the dance form known as the “Jota”, while the second, contrasting section is derived from the “Fandango”, but is altered in both time and tempo from its usual form.

2. A Santa Cecilia (3:00) Radaelli

“A Santa Cecilia” is an Italian march written for St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music. Unlike the marches of John Philip Sousa, Karl King and Henry Fillmore, Italian marches are usually lyrical and moderately slow. This march is a fine example of the significant contributions that Italians have made to American wind band music.

3. Symphonic Dance # 3 (6:27) Clifton Williams

Composed in 1964. Fiesta is one of a group of five pieces originally commissioned for the 25th anniversary of the San Antonio Symphony. This piece depicts the pageantry of Latin American celebrations - street bands to bull fights.

Condition: I have listened carefully to the complete record both on my Rega Planar 9/Einstein TU 3 and on my Linn LP 12 / Denon cartridge. Side 1 looks mint- in daylight and in normal artificial light, only under a real strong light you may find some very few papersleeve-lines, but you'll have to look hard to find them. Side 1 plays in mint- nearly all of the time, only in some very few silent/quietest parts there are a few singular, very low and occasional soft tics in the back, just a few split-seconds on the complete side, 99 % are free of that. Overall grading side 1: mint--/ex++.

Side 2 has a few mm superficial marks/shadows on the first track. The other 2 tracks look the same as side 1, these 2 tracks play exactly like side 1, very close to mint- all of the time. The first track has a few of the soft backgroundtics in a row, but mostly singular as the rest. 96 % are free of imperfections. Overall grading side 2: ex++/ex.

The cover has intact seams/spine with a little rub, moderate cornerwear, front & back are fine with slightest shelfwear, overall ex+.

Grading & Cleaning:

• the record has been cleaned on my professional HANNL record cleaning machine

• after that I playgraded it (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN:TU-3 Super Fine Line ( please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment )

• I also visually graded the record under a strong light

• only an unplayed record is mint, the highest grading for a used record is mint- ! My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg.

• cleaned records are stored in a new deluxe innersleeve and they are placed in a new PVC protection-sleeve !
