Description
Two years ago, I had the good fortune to buy the complete music collection of one of the two directors of the Australian label, Regular Records, including a huge storage space containing the entire Regular Records Archives. I sold a few odd items about a year ago, and the (huge!) balance has remained untouched...until now. It's time to get amongst it all and pull out some nice items...so here goes.
The Archives was loaded with master tapes, video masters, contracts, complete files on each artist...as well as mint copies of virtually EVERY vinyl, CD, and cassette release, plus vinyl test pressings...AND...a few very rare ACETATES!...and this...is one of those.

PRESSED IN: AUSTRALIA (at EMI's Studio 301 cutting room) .
Comes in its original plain white die-cut paper sleeve. Beautiful custom label with handwritten info. There are no inscriptions or matrix numbers engraved into the vinyl. "Hawke Monologue" was the original title for what was eventually released as "The First Televised Parliament".
The Regular director confirmed that this was the only one of this acetate made...and also that it was NOT the final cut as used for the officially-released 12" single. In fact it was nowhere NEAR what was released. The eventually released 12" did have an extended version of "Phantom Shuffle", but that version was only 5:15 long, as opposed to the 6:28 version on this (there was an even shorter version on the 7" single). Also, the 'B' side of the released 12" featured what was known as the "Full Edited Version" of "The First Televised Parliament' (4:50)...and the "Phantom Megamix" did NOT appear at all on the released 12". So what you have here is completely unique.
I found this amongst a small group of acetates in a box that looked like it hadn't been opened for the 25+ years since the last one had been added to it. It was so heavy and was one of the last boxes I found as it was way at the back under everything else...but it did have the single magic word "ACETATES" scrawled on it. I'd bought the goldmine, and here was the gold!
Please note that I'll take special care in packing this.
