PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original the sole album by Indianapolis’ ANONYMOUS stands today as a high-water mark in rock ‘n’ roll, combining the adventure of west coast ballroom groups, the 12-string majesty of Byrds, and breathtaking multi-part harmonies to forge something inimitable and one-of-a-kind, with powerful songs that pushed the limit and raised the bar at the same time. Long time top ten favorite with almost every head we know, a true classic recommended for everyone into amazing rock records of all varieties.
Recorded in the mid 70s on the playfully-named, "A Major Label," the Indianapolis-based combo Anonymous was led by Ron Matelic, who along with group drummer John Medvescek had been in ‘60s fuzz psych legends, Sir Winston & the Commons, but since their dissolution and preceding the Inside the Shadow sessions had been playing together purely for kicks, kinda making the grand-scale majesty on display here all the more impressive. Inside the Shadow is a collision of the post-psychedelic return-to-roots arena many were mining in the late ‘60s-early ‘70s (Buffalo Springfield, Byrds, etc), while retaining some of the high-flying trippiness of the early Quicksilver Messenger Service era, and the omnipresent influence of later ‘60s Beatles, yet it coalesces into a truly singular and unique work with its own voice intact, standing as a supreme out-of-time treasure.
Having invited a few other musician friends along for the project, Matelic found his perfect foil in Marsha Rollings, with the purity of their two voices working in tandem to such a marvelous degree that we'd rate them higher than some total groups singing in unison, just awesome.
Inside the Shadow is no in-the-dark spectacle salivated over by its unique strangeness, nor does it live in the praise-the-ineptitude realm many who chase private-press joys are forever-searching, this album literally is one of the best releases to come out the mid '70s and it’s a travesty more people haven’t heard it. And, for those needing a toe-dippin’ entry into the possibilities of the private-press it’s as perfect and accessible as at gets—well-produced, but not overly so, and played expertly—but also one of its pinnacles, so tread lightly moving forward, as there’s not a weak moment in the set to these ears. The bouncy and rollicking “Pick Up and Run,” carries as sweet a 12-string jangle as any Byrds/McGuinn offering while “Shadow Lay,” spins the spectrum of the totality of the qualities on display across this set, beginning with mellow-bred magic and ascending to hero-worthy guitar play.
