He was once a member of Screaming Lord Sutch's backing band, The Savages, but Paul Nicholas went on to enjoy a very successful career mixing hit pop singles (four in the UK, two in the States and a Number One in New Zealand) with acting appearances on the tv/movies, and combining the two skills in musical theatre. However, perhaps his music legacy is best served by a track originally served up as an obscure B side to his 1970 single, the third he'd released, on the Polydor label (56374), 'Freedom City'. The A side, which Paul wrote himself, was a perfectly decent pop-rock ballad with a big chorus. But it was the B side, a traditional song, 'Run Shaker Life', arranged by Alan Tew and produced by Steve Stevenson which created something of a stir amongst record collectors and eventually became very sought after indeed. It is a truly exciting three minutes and fifty eight seconds of driving rock behind Paul's gruff vocal, which really whips up a storm as the female back-up vocalists join the action, and the track builds to a frenzied finish with drums to the fore and the girls singing their hearts out while Paul puts in perhaps the performance of his career. Play it to someone who hasn't heard it before and they will almost certainly fail to name the singer, and be stunned when they find out. This copy of the record has been played a few times and has the odd superficial scuff but both sides are vg+ with excellent audio quality.There are no spindle wear marks. The record also comes in its original Polydor red, white and black sleeve in vg condition.
