Historical Significance
Influence on Miles Davis: Jamal's "New Rhumba" was transcribed note-for-note by Gil Evans for Miles Davis's 1957 album Miles Ahead. Davis was also inspired by the trio's use of space and "All of You" became a staple in his own repertoire.
Instrumentation: The trio's drum-less format was modeled after the Nat "King" Cole Trio but featured a more transparent, modern approach to rhythm and texture.
