Description

Thanks for viewing this item. I'm a UK collector of 78's and I have a number of surplus records for disposal (duplicates or records that I don't play often enough). As a fellow collector I appreciate the importance of careful grading and packing and you can be confident of both when bidding. I will be listing some rare and choice items over the next few weeks so please keep checking. If you have any questions - please don't hesitate to contact me. Best wishes and happy bidding.

Here is an exceptionally rare Berliner record made in London dated 30/12/1898 of the great music hall star Albert Chevalier singing The Future Mrs 'Awkins. Not only was this Chevalier's first record it was also probably the Gramophone Companys first important London recording session featuring a star performer. What makes it especially interesting is the fact that Chevalier announces the record himself. The record is well worn with some distortion but actually plays better than the scan looks! It is still quite shiny with no digs or cracks. The record has flat spots (common on most Berliners) and plays through ok. Not at all bad for a record made almost 108 years ago. Although Berliners turn up from time to time this is a rare one (you may never see another copy again) and its rarity is reflected in the higher starting price.
