Description
For sale is Albert Hammond's It Never Rains In Southern California, originally released in 1972 by Columbia Records of Canada in a gate-fold presentation and imported into the U.S. It has the red label with MUMS at the top under the Columbia logo in white and "360 Sound" at the bottom in white, along with two CBS logos half way up the label and opposite each other. These look like eyes and are commonly called "2-eyed" Columbia records. In the dead wax between the labels and the last tracks are the matrix numbers 1-A/1-A, indicating that the first stamper was used to make this first edition. This album was mastered by Doug Sax at The Mastering Lab. These are all hallmarks of state-of-the-art engineering and sought after for their superior sound quality by collectors and music lovers. I bought this used, professionally cleaned it on my VPI HW-17 machine and immediately put it into a MFSL archival inner sleeve. I always put my records directly into a protective inner sleeve, thus preserving the vinyl and any inner sleeve(s) or insert(s) that may have come originally with the release. There is no original inner sleeve with this listing. The cover is graded as VG+ because of ring wear, corner blunting, edge rubs and stress cracks along some of the edges. The spine has color loss from all these rubs. The vinyl is visually graded as Excellent because of some faint sleeve marks, and play graded as Near Mint. It's been played only on Audiophile equipment since I've owned it and still has a lot of life yet. This is the best copy of this very rare record that I have ever seen or heard and you would be hard pressed to find a first pressing in this condition. I'm not a professional grader of records, but will use record guides, as well as my personal experiences as a basis of my grading all records. Since grading is subjective, I will be conservative.
