Original Master Recording - Mobile Fidelity Half Speed Mastering Works Edition.
Only about 150 of these Demos were pressed in the United States to be given to radio stations. This copy is unique in that it has a mint cover and the record itself has never been played. A true collectable that will only ever go up in value.
Mobile Fidelity was the first label to use the half-speed mastering technique. All LP releases are pressed from lacquers cut at 1/2 normal playing speed. This is accomplished by playing master tape at half its normal speed, while simultaneously running the cutting lathe at half speed. For instance, a 30 inch per second (I.P.S.) speed tape would be played at 15 I.P.S., while the lathe is running at 16?? RPM (when cutting a standard 33?? RPM LP). The half-speed mastering technique allows for extended frequency response and better transient attack. It was the first attempt at compacting more tracks on a Vinyl release with better sound.
Early MFSL titles were specially plated and pressed by JVC Victor Company in Japan on virgin high definition "SuperVinyl" vinyl. JVC originally developed this proprietary plastic compound in the early 1970s to reduce record wear on LP records. Supervinyl is a harder and more durable vinyl formula than traditional formulas. The pressings exhibit a very low surface noise, as well as less pops and clicks. Supervinyl is proprietary JVC technology, which was discontinued in the late 1980s.
This item features a special static dust free inner sleeve and special super heavy duty protective packaging.
The source was the original stereo master tape mastered with the Ortofon cutting system. Manufactured by MFSL Inc Chatsworth CA 91311 Under Licence From The Atlantic Recording Corporation 1975. Recorded at soundstage Toronto by Dave Palmer & Jim Frank. Record plant east and electric lady land New York by Edd Sprigg, Dave Palmer, Corry Stasiak & Rod Obrien & A&R Studios by the incredible Phil Ramone.
