Description

This first pressing of All Things Must Pass is an original 1970 UK first pressing, inspection of the main five specific areas: matrix numbers, vinyl labels, inner sleeves, box construction, and inserts.
1. Matrix Numbers in the Run-Out Groove
The dead wax (run-out area) of each record contains stamped identifiers. An authentic UK first pressing must feature -1U matrix suffixes stamped across all six sides:
Side 1: YEX 817-1U
Side 2: YEX 818-1U
Side 3: YEX 819-1U
Side 4: YEX 820-1U
Side 5: YEX 821-1U
Side 6: YEX 822-1U
2.Inner Sleeves & Colour Scheme
Original UK sets were packaged with three distinctively coloured, textured card inner sleeves:
Record 1: Lilac / Light Blue
Record 2: Tawny / Grey
Record 3: Mustard / Light Green
3.Text Markings: UK sleeves have the small "Printed in USA" markings in a tiny circle at the bottom corner, as EMI imported initial sleeve stock for early UK runs. All good and intact
4.Box Construction & Inner Lid
Outer Box: Textured grey/black matte box featuring George Harrison seated among garden gnomes.
Inner Lining: Orange interior lining.

5.A complete UK first pressing includes a large folded poster (36 x 24 inches) of Harrison. This looks like it has never left the box! no corner damage at all
This my friends is a rare and sought-after variant: a 1970 UK First Pressing printed with US labels.

US Sleeve Markings: The tiny circular "Printed in USA" text on the inner sleeves was exclusive to US sleeve manufacturing runs. (Early UK boxes imported these US-printed sleeves for early batches before UK printers produced their own, which is why UK sets often have them as well.)
Full Orange Apples on All Sides: In 1970, US Capitol pressing plants (specifically plants in Jacksonville, Winchester, or Los Angeles) frequently printed full orange Apples across all four primary sides instead of alternating with sliced Apples.

What Happened in 1970
During the initial November 1970 rush to supply the UK market, EMI's Hayes factory in England faced a label supply shortage for the massive 3-LP release.
To keep up with demand, EMI imported batches of printed centre labels and inner sleeves directly from Capitol Records in the US. The factory placed these imported US full-orange Apple labels onto UK-pressed vinyl stampers.
Authentic UK EMI First Pressing (YEX 817-1U through YEX 822-1U dead wax)
Imported US Capitol orange full-Apple labels (Sides 1–4) & Apple Jam labels (Sides 5–6)
Original US-printed lilac/grey/mustard textured card sleeves.
