Description

THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND – EAT A PEACH – 1972 CAPRICORN 2LP

Excellent early U.S. copy of The Allman Brothers Band’s landmark 1972 album Eat a Peach, released on Capricorn Records shortly after the death of Duane Allman.

This is the classic 2LP Capricorn 2CP 0102 configuration featuring the early cream/marbled Capricorn Records labels and the elaborate peach-themed gatefold packaging.

Most importantly, the vinyl is in unusually attractive EX condition, retaining excellent gloss and presenting considerably better than many surviving copies of this heavily played Southern-rock classic.

Confirmed matrix from this copy:

This 40128-1A matrix belongs to the early matrix family associated with the original-era 1972 2CP 0102 release.

Additional deadwax markings may be present; photographs and the physical record should be considered the definitive reference.

CONDITION — GOLDMINE GRADING

Vinyl: EX

Both records are conservatively graded EX.

Beautiful overall appearance with strong, deep gloss. Only minor superficial sleeve/handling evidence is visible under direct lighting. No significant scratches are apparent in the photographs.

The labels remain very attractive with some normal age-related discoloration/spotting visible.

An exceptionally presentable vintage copy.

Gatefold Jacket: VG / VG+

The original elaborate peach-themed gatefold jacket remains structurally presentable but clearly shows its age.

There is noticeable age toning/discoloration across the exterior, along with rubbing, storage wear, light staining/soiling, edge and corner wear and scattered surface marks.

The central peach/truck artwork remains colorful and attractive.

The jacket has intentionally been graded substantially more conservatively than the records.

Please examine all photographs carefully—the photos are part of the condition description.

TRACKS INCLUDE

Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More

Les Brers in A Minor

Melissa

Mountain Jam

One Way Out

Of particular note is the legendary “Mountain Jam,” occupying an entire LP side at approximately 33 minutes across the original album configuration.

COLLECTOR NOTE

Eat a Peach is one of the defining albums of The Allman Brothers Band and one of the essential records of the Southern-rock era.

Released in 1972, the album combines studio recordings with live material and includes some of the final recordings featuring Duane Allman.

This copy combines the desirable early cream Capricorn label presentation, 2CP 0102 catalog number, early -1A matrix evidence, original gatefold artwork and especially attractive EX vinyl.

This is not being represented as a specific pressing-plant variant because all four deadwax inscriptions have not been completely transcribed.

SHIPPING

Both records will ship outside the jacket in protective inner sleeves, packed in a professional LP mailer with cardboard reinforcement to help prevent seam splits and shipping damage.
