Description

  • Blue Note Records BLP 1504, this is an original mono pressing - NOT a reissue - of the classic Bud Powell LP "The Amazing Bud Powell". This pressing has the "767 Lexington Ave NYC" address notation, with both the infamous "ear" and "RVG" clearly marked in the trail off; there is a "deep groove" under the label on both sides, and no "R" registry mark. This copy belonged to The Band's multi-instrumentalist Garth Hudson, and he had printed his name at lower left front corner of the jacket, and signed his name on the back top edge. Otherwise, jacket is VG+, showing some rubbing/ring wear; there is also some corner wear/flaking at edges, but no splits. Side 1 of the vinyl is a solid VG, showing some paper/surface marks and a few small scratches; there are no skips or repeats, but some crackle. Side 2 grades about VG-, and looks similar to sign 1 until you notice a feelable groove wear scratch (as if it was played with a heavy tone arm?) at the beginning of track 1 that results in a skip that probably costs a few rotations. After getting past that flaw, playback is similar to side 1 and solid throughout - some crackle, but no further skips, repeats, etc. Labels are crisp, showing a faint spindle marks. Garth Hudson also inked a stylized "H" above the stock number on both sides of the label. Only Lexington copy of this one I have ever come across.
