Description
Original 1967 UK black Fontana label mono press LP.The Amboy Dukes were based in Detroit and interested a record label (Mainstream) that primarily produced jazz albums. Ted Nugent assembled a new band of local Detroit players to secure a recording contract with them and brought in John (J.B.) Drake as lead vocalist. The album featured seven group composed originals and covers with a soulful, psychadelic sound throughout. It included their first single "Baby, Please Don't Go", a cover of a delta blues song by Big Joe Williams which charted in 1967. This is the original release with the very earliest 1L-1 2L-1 matrices & 1-2/1-2 mother stampers of the very first 1967 issue!
The flipback laminated sleeve is intact & in VG+ condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some light laminate storage wear and creasing on the front cover, with some discolouration on the rear cover. The spine is still intact, worn and still readable, the company inner is intact & in VG+ condition. The record is in visually VG+ condition, with a few faint & wispy sleeve removal hairlines and a couple of needle marks visible under bright light on each side. The labels are in VG+ condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of spindle markings. Overall the record still retains most of its original sheen and looks good. The sound reproduction is VG+ to EX, still clear & precise throughout with definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some background noise during the run in grooves and some clicking in a couple of places where the needle marks sound, overall, a really great listen, that plays much better than it looks. The matrix nos. are; 683742, 1L-1-420 mother stamper 1-2, 2L-1-420 mother stamper 1-3. This is one of the very earliest 1st pressings of the original 1967 UK mono 1st issue of this album!
