Description
Lovely autograph and memorabilia package relating to celebrated grand opera soprano Amelita Galli Curci (1882-1963). Colotura Soprano and one of the most popular singers in the period between World War 1 and World War 2. She is famously mentioned in Nancy Mitford's Pursuit of Love, where Uncle Matthew goes to see her tour of England in 1924 and comes away disappointed at her diminutive size and alleged voice!
Autograph probably dates from the 1930s and is on a small trimmed piece of paper and tipped into the end papers of the biography. Nice blue ink and bold signature.
Biography is first edition of Le Massena's book "Galli Curci's Life of Song" (which was written with her assistance). Book is American edition from 1943 with original dust jacket. Never published in UK. Very rare in itself. Lovely condition for age with some light damage to jacket and light marks to pages but close to excellent for age.
Finally programme from Us concert in 1926. In really nice condition and once again extremely rare.
Bought when I was collecting grand opera memorabilia but never got round to displaying etc. Now is time for me to sell so another collector can enjoy. Fair price and looking for a good home!
