On offer in this auction listing with a buy-it-now option, is a true world rarity set of three (3) 12"x 78 rpm phonograph records of 'Andre JOLIVET's String Quartet No. 1 (1er Quatour a Cordes)', performed by the PASCAL Quartet (Quatour), on the French label CONTRE POINT C.O. 7- C.O. 9. in near mint (NM) condition. All three record surfaces have factory fresh NEAR MINT PLUS (NM+) glossy surfaces with no cracks, chips, scratches, digs, or rubs. Overall these discs look as if they have been only and carefully played a few times. They play and sound beautiful on my system easily tracking at three grams (3g) with my Stanton cartridge/stylus combination. The A-side of all the labels are clean with minimal markings, but the B-sides have a name written in pen and/or tape residue and small tears.
ContrePoint, a subsidary of Vogue records, specializing in contemporary music only released three works on their very short-lived 78 rpm series. The first release was of Messiaen's 'Visions de L'amen', (C.O. 1- C.O. 6) which was subsequently released by Ross Russell on his DIAL RECORDS 'Library Of Contemporary Classics Series' as Dial LP-8. The other release was an obsure, very rare recording of Schoenberg's 'Suite pour 7 Instruments, op. 29', (C.O. 10- C.O. 13), conducted by Schoenberg's former student, Max Deutsch. Interestingly, Ross Russell in his correspendence in discussing possible future releases he was contemplating for his Contermporary series on DIAL does mention this specific set as '... music by Jolivet ..". Like the Messiaen release on Dial, he was considering the Jolivet for Dial release as well!
