Description

ANDREW HILL      Smokestack       Blue Note BNLP 4160

This is an original mono 1966 P-pressing of Andrew Hill's 4th release for Blue Note as leader, "Smokestack". A very unique piano album in both composition AND instrumentation as it features TWO bassists. Although this lp was the 2nd Hill session recorded for Blue Note, it was actually the 4th Hill lp released by Blue Note. I guess they routinely held on to material for possible later issue (or non-issue for that matter).

Dead Wax Info: Side 1 has BNLP-4160-A etched into the dead wax. Side 2 has BNLP-4160-B etched into the dead wax. Both sides have VAN GELDER and the cursive P (ear) stamped into dead wax.

Vinyl Visual Grade:  VG/VG+ with a few light marks and mottling from being in a paper sleeve for 50 years. Could stand with a good cleaning. Labels show minimal play.

Vinyl Play Grade: VG+ and better with GREAT fidelity and probably as good a play as you will find. The noise level is VERY LOW and would probably improve with a cleaning. The lp basically plays about NM.

Cover Visual Grade: VG+ on this original glossy paste-over cover. No ring wear front but there is mild ring wear on reverse. Some minor dirt front middle, and also minor corner, spine and seam wear. All in all pretty nice cover.

Comes with original Blue Note 26-year paper inner sleeve (VG) which is fraying at the top opening, a wee bit creased and has one seam split.

Hello all. My name is Jamie and I have been collecting records for 40+ years. It is time to trim down my unmanageable inventory. My tastes run all over the sonic map, so there should be something for almost everyone.

ALL records will have been visually inspected under BRIGHT incandescent light with extreme scrutiny.

ALL open records will have been play graded using a Thorens TD 165 turntable and Yamaha amplifier (JBL reference headphones). Treble set high so nothing will be hidden in my grades. My grading is as follows:

M or Mint - NOT USED as there is no such thing as perfection.

NM or Near Mint - No significant markings - sealed or RARELY played.

VG+ - Minimal marking - none of which significantly affects fidelity of lp.

VG - Minimal to modest marking which affects lp but not to the point of distraction.

G - Modest marking but still VERY listenable, depending on your ears.

I WILL NOT SELL ANY LP AT LESS THAN G UNLESS THERE IS SIGNIFICANT HISTORICAL VALUE ATTACHED TO THE LP.

ALL COVERS WILL HAVE DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF ALL FLAWS.

I USE PROPER RECORD MAILERS WITH STIFFENERS AND PADDED CORNERS. I HAVE BOUGHT TOO MANY RECORDS ON EBAY WITH DINGED CORNERS FROM INSUFFICIENT PACKAGING. BY PADDING THE CORNERS WITH FOLDED BUBBLE WRAP (WHICH I DO) , YOU CAN BE SURE OF RECEIVING AN LP WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE CORNERS.

SHIPPING FEES:

Shipping will be $10 U.S. for anywhere in the U.S. as long as the weight is under 500 grams after packaging.

ON PACKAGES OVER 500g, PLEASE WAIT FOR PROPER INVOICE. MOST LPS CAN BE SHIPPED AS UNDER 500 GRAMS.

Other countries (including Canada), please refer to the Canada Post rates which should be available on the ebay shipping details within the listing.

Returns accepted within 14 days (and with good reason).

I AM A REASONABLE PERSON. I WILL ONLY CHARGE FOR ACTUAL SHIPPING, AND NONE OF THE PACKAGING COSTS. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE BOUGHT ITEM, PLEASE WORK WITH ME TO FIND A SOLUTION THAT WILL BE TO YOUR LIKING. thanks for this
