Description
Billy Klüver produced an LP record for the "Popular Image Exhibition" at the Washington Gallery of Modern Art in April 1963. The LP was sold at the exhibition in a cover designed by Jim Dine.
After the exhibition Billy Klüver suggested to Andy Warhol that they make an alternative cover and Warhol had a pile of record sleeves in his studio and silkscreened his famous "GIANT SIZE $1.57 EACH" motive onto 75 plain white covers and editions of 75 copies each on covers that he had spraypainted Green, Red, Orange and Yellow. The white covers were signed and numbered on the reverse, as were some of the coloured covers. Some covers contained Billy Klüver's LP (presumably copies not sold during the exhibition.
The cover up for sale here is a reproduction of the GREEN VERSION made in October 2013 (fifty years after the original) exactly as Warhol made his:
The record cover was first sprayed with green paint and then the "GIANT SIZE $1.57 EACH" was silkscreened onto the cover. The plain white rear cover was stamped with "Giant Size $1.57 Each - 50th Anniversary Edition" to avoid confusion with the original prints.
ONLY TEN COPIES WERE MADE. This is No 2/10 (numbered inside the cover.
NOTE: The cover does NOT contain the record.
It will ship from Sweden. Insured shipping costs $25.
