Description
"A Pintl Mitn Oyg" b/w "Der Yetser Hora" by Annie Lubin on Columbia E4499. Recorded November 1919. Condition is E+
Lubin was born on 14 May 1897 in Lodz, Poland. Her father was a weaver. She learned in a folkshul and Yiddish with a rabbi. Through her brother, who was very close with Yiddish actors, had performed as "Papus" during Schildkraut's performances in Lodz, and Lubin came into contact with the theatre. As a child she danced in Lodz's Grand Theatre with Zandberg in the play "Di grinhorns (The Greenhorns)".
In 1914 she immigrated to America and entered into the chorus at the Hub Theatre in Boston, and after that as she meet the actor Max Badin, went over to a second theatre where she debuted as "Binyamin" in "Joseph with his Brothers". After her marriage to Badin, who had written special lyrics for her, they performed together for a short time within the province. Later Lubin performed in Brooklyn's Liberty Theatre as a soubrette and remained with this genre.
From 1927-30 Lubin acted in the Rolland Theatre and since then acted only for a short period in various theatres in New York and across the province.
In 1916 Lubin acted in English vaudeville.
