Annie Ross & The Tony Kinsey Quintet – Loguerhythms, Songs From The Establishment was issued in the UK in 1963 on Transatlantic TRA 107. This is a first (and only) pressing with hand-etched TRA 107-A / TRA 107-B matrices. The album was rereleased in 1966 with a different cover as Transatlantic XTRA 1049.

Annie Ross (born 25 July 1930) is a Scottish jazz singer. She was born as Annabelle Allan Short in Mitcham, London, the daughter of Scottish vaudevillians Jack Short and May Dalziel Short (née Allan). Her brother was entertainer Jimmy Logan. At the age of four, she went to New York in an immigration ship with her family; she later recalled that they "got the cheapest ticket, which was right in the bowels of the ship". Shortly after arriving in the city, she won a token contract with MGM through a children's radio contest run by Paul Whiteman. She subsequently moved with her aunt Ella Logan to Los Angeles, and her mother, father and brother returned to Scotland to be with the rest of their family. At the age of seven, she sang "The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond" in Our Gang Follies of 1938, and played Judy Garland's sister in Presenting Lily Mars (1943). At the age of 14, she wrote the song "Let's Fly", which won a songwriting contest and was recorded by Johnny Mercer and The Pied Pipers. At the end of tenth grade, she left school, changed her name to Annie Ross, and went to Europe, where she quickly established her singing career.

Front laminated single sleeve with flipbacks, manufactured from heavy card, is in Very Good minus condition. Sellotape has been applied around all three edges to repair splits in the top edge (1½ inches / 3.8 cms) and two splits in the bottom edge (2½ inches / 6.35 cms and 1½ inches / 3.8 cms). This will hold the sleeve together forever, but it is not the way things should be done.

The vinyl is in Very Good condition. This is a thick, heavy pressing. There is light crackle and a few light clicks. On Side 2 there is a scratch over the first two minutes of The Ballad Of The Ape and The Judge which clicks and there is also a small scratch at the beginning of Western Ladies which clicks briefly. The A Side label is fine, whilst the B Side label has heavy tape residue. The cause of this residue is that a previous owner acquired a hand-written personal dedication signed by Annie Ross on a scrap of paper and saw fit to stick the dedication onto the B Side label. The scrap of paper with the signed dedication is still present (and is included in this auction) but has fallen from the label and lies loose in the inner sleeve.

I absolutely guarantee my gradings as played through my system. All my records are cleaned on a Moth Mk II RCM and play-graded in their entirety on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with RB300 tonearm and Denon DL-304 MC cartridge tracking at 1.5 g through an azur 840a amp via Chord Odyssey 4 bi-wired cable into KEF Q900 speakers. Inferior component-type turntables without proper tracking are more prone to sticking and jumping than high-grade turntables. If you love vinyl, do yourself a favour and invest in a decent system if you don't already own one. You don't have to pay thousands. Excellent quality 2nd hand turntables are available on eBay for around £100 (about the price of 1 rare LP). Your investment will be more than rewarded by the additional listening pleasure you derive.

Grading :

M = Mint - as new

NM = Near Mint - very few, light signs of usage that don’t affect play - the cover has only minor signs of wear.

EX = Excellent - some signs of usage, but very little lessening in sound quality – the cover might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VG = Very Good - no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch - normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

G = Good - the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches - the cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

+ and - are used as appropriate.

Shipping Policy :

If not still sealed, records are taken out of the sleeve to avoid splitting. They are posted in professional mailers with proper stiffeners for extra protection. These are pre-used and so are provided free of charge. A polythene sleeve is also always included.
