From 1959: Dia De Reyes by Antobal's Cuban All-Stars directed by Abdulio Morales on Felsted FL 7510 (mono). Something I know about this LP: This is top shelf latin jazz from a great Cuban outfit. This record is a high water mark for this genre and this time period, it easily jams with the best of it's contemporaries and out-classes many. Things I learned:  comparing back cover images online it seems that on this release the outfit added a flute player by the name of Osvaldo Penalver. Billboard gave a 3 star revue to this LP in November of 1959 (that is how I came to the release year).  I don't think stereo recordings were done at the time.

Vinyl: EX+  record with no issues, 'damn close to NM' save for the vaque hint of a pressing mark or two. Extremely clean with nice sheen. Labels are in great shape. Top shelf sound, fantastic would be a way to describe it. A great example of how nice mono can sound.

Cover: overall EX, or better for being in great, clean condition, straight corners and edges, all intact. There is a light wrinkle at top spine corner, light signs of age coloration on the back with a light ring beginning to ghost in. Promo stamp 'not for sale'. The one real negative on the whole deal would be a funny small ink mark of some kind in the lower left of the back, kind of looks like a small drawing of a flag with the post at horizontal, maybe it's an ink mark from the stamp because in the light there is no impression as if it were written. Original onion skin type inner sleeve in VG or better condition (record is stored in a nice anti-static sleeve).

GRADING:

(M): mint - a record known to be new or very close to it, This record would look pristine and new in every way.

(NM): near mint - almost like new, only the slightest hint of any wear if any would be allowed.

(VG+ or EX): excellent or very good plus - very little wear, still in excellent & collectible shape. Record looks like it would play great.   

(VG) very good - acceptable but showing quite a bit of wear...likely audible surface noise.

(VG-) very good minus - could be acceptable but showing a lot of wear...or maybe 90 percent of the disc is nice and there is one song with a gash..probably some audible tics or clicks or maybe just numerous light marks but otherwise a decent player. Surface noise without a doubt, but again exceptions to the rule happen all the time.

(G+), (G) or (G-) a lot more of the same as a VG-, if something with this grade is listed it's not likely to be pretty but not necessarilly a basket case or riddled with deep scratches. Poor or Fair grades probably won't come up, I forget which is better poor or fair, but IMO fair is a poor record that is not so toasted that You are afraid to play it even with a beater stylus so poor would not need any real explanation. I have spent many years eliminating the poorer or lesser grade records and trading up to nice ones etc., records in the below VG condition for the most part can be a waste of time. 

The kind of issues that a record can have between G and VG can definitely be summed up as rough looking, but anything in this category needs some evaluating as far as deep scratches or marks that cause clicks & ticks or just numerous light marks that don't really do anything. I generally will avoid listing records in this condition but on the other hand I own records in this condition and play them once in awhile so all I can say is if I list something in not so great condition that it would be well described and something that has value despite lesser condition.

I look closely at everything under a very bright light,  EX+ is my only real variation to accepted grading terms, meaning damn close to NM. This is kind of an arbitrary process overall depending on who is doing it so I try to grade conservatively and provide a play grade where possible, IMHO this is a better process than saying everything is VG+ with no other description other than a pic.

If You are purchasing one item for delivery in the continental U.S. then by all means just check out at auction end. If for some strange reason you do buy a few more or a lot more it just makes sense to wait for my invoice, please let me know if You are bidding on more than one item. It's just more convenient and  hassle free that way. I am more than willing to make it as cheap as possible for multiple shipping.

International: 

I do not want to ship outside of the U.S. right now, I will likely cancel a bid or transaction if You do bid without reading this and checking first: Please contact before bidding just so I know You read this, then I take it more seriously. Please wait for an Invoice! I do not have access to magical mailing discounts although I can get limited tracking and insurance. Anywhere from $9.00 to $25.00 has been what I see as a possible average for shipping costs to Canada, Europe or Japan. I usually communicate enough to know an item is what the long distance international bidder wants and then I usually get insurance and split that cost.  I try to be accurate in my listing description and I also like to have things easy and not ship international -it's cheaper and works faster for me, but people from all over just ignore that I say U.S. only and bid anyway! 

I package carefully for transport, with LPs in a clean extra sleeve next to cover both inside a poly protector sleeve with original inner sleeves stored inside cover. -the same way I store them. Usually it gets the anti-static extra sleeve, but no guarantee.  This has always been a practice to keep original inner sleeves in as nice a shape as possible. Sometimes  the LP has no special inner sleeve and uses a generic paper sleeve, I try to note if an item has a printed or custom inner, etc. Bubble wrap or similar will be used inside a cardboard media mailer with an extra cardboard slice etc. inside for extra protection.
