Studio long player number 16 from American rock 'n' roll-punk icon Iggy Pop almost never was. Virgin EMI Records rejected the record after first getting their hands on it, potentially because a good chunk of it takes the form of cover versions sung in French, and despite the widening and supposed democratisation of music in the 21st Century, some majors are still prone to snub anything that might be difficult to sell (in fact, they might be more prone in the era of wafer thin budgets).
For proof, the man himself believed his label was looking for a guitar offering with popular contemporary punk types involved, and "didn't think they would make any money" or that his fans would enjoy this outing - "very sensible attitudes for a sensible sort of person, but that's a different sort of person than I am," he expounded. Thanks to Thousand Mile Inc for stepped up and putting Apres out in 2012, then, as the collection of largely delicate, Romantic fire-side troubadour kindling is deeply effective and evocative.
