Archie Shepp - Four For Trane
(HMV Records CSD 3524 UK Mono LP 1965)
This is a UK Mono 1st pressing LP. It has a heavyweight front laminated flipback sleeve. This has a factory "pinched" top & bottom spine. The sleeve is printed by "Garrod & Lofthouse". It comes with its original generic tracing-paper lined company "HMV" paper inner sleeve. This advertises other LP's available at the time. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has black & red "HMV" labels. These have "The Gramophone Co..." and "Sold in UK..." texts. There is a company "KT" tax code embossed around the spindle hole on Side 2. The 1st press matrix numbers (& mother stampers) are as follows:
Side 1: A-71 A-1 (R 1)
Side 2: A-71 B-1 (G 1)
This is a genuine UK Mono 1st pressing of this excellent mid 1960's Free Jazz LP. These are not that common. This is quite a well played/ worn copy. However, playback is very reasonable overall! I have some other rare & collectable 1960's, early 1970's UK and USA Jazz LP's for sale. This includes some John Coltrane LP's. So please see my other listings.
Sleeve: There is a 4 cm seam split, and area of considerable rubbing wear, at the centre of the bottom edge. There are two extremely small 0.5 cm tears at the front sleeve opening edge only. This is near the bottom. There is more moderate to moderate rubbing wear to the corner tips. There is mild, more moderate to moderate rubbing wear on the sleeve opening edges on some areas. There is very mild fading to the rear sleeve. There is light, mild or very mild finger-tip staining, or other staining, on the rear sleeve on some areas. There is light, mild or very mild rubbing wear on the spine face on a few areas. The spine text is completely legible. There is mild, very mild or more moderate ringwear on some areas. This is mainly on the front. Overall, Good+ condition
Vinyl: There is a light 7 cm hairline surface rub mark on Side 2. This is not that noticeable under a strong light. There are some light, mild, very mild or very minor sleeve rubs which can only be seen under a strong light. There are a few areas of more moderate sleeve rubs. or surface rub marks, which, again, can only be seen under a strong light. The inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, very mild or very minor dull surface marks on a few areas. These can hardly be seen under a strong light. Overall, a strong Very Good condition. The labels are in Excellent condition & show mild or very mild spindle wear only. The company inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.
I have fully play tested this LP. It plays Very Good+ to Near Excellent overall & Excellent in many places. There is some light, mild, very mild or very minor crackle in some quieter places. There are a few intermittent light or very mild clicks halfway through Side 1. There are a couple of mild clicks a quarter of the way through Side 2. Overall, a very decent audio copy!
