Now I know y'all like records and I got some fine wares here for y'all to peruse, so why don't you just hunker back in that there chair of yours and get yourself real comfy and look at all of my auctions one by one. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS RECORD IS HERE:

This auction is for a NM (Vinyl)/NM (Cover) copy of the ungodly rare, legendary and long out of print 2 LP set by Ariel Kalma and Richard Tinti entitled "Osmose". This is the ORIGINAL and ONLY 1978 French pressing and it looks like the original owner played this once only, if that. You still have some flash residue in the center hole (you can actually see the flash residue in the third scan below), which is always one of the strongest indicators of "play" - were it not for the fact that this record is not sealed I would be strongly tempted to grade the vinyl as mint, but I refuse to grade ANY unsealed vinyl any higher than Near Mint or Mint Minus. Mint (or Mint Minus) vinyl on this album is absolutely essential: Side 1 - 22.30, Side 2: 21.00. Ok so what's so damn special you ask? Ok..... Side 3: 39.50! Side 4: 36.00! On the second disc a mishandled copy of this won't play worth a damn. And these are 1970's FRENCH pressings, which have never been god's gift to vinyl collectors in the first place (although as French 70's pressings go this is a very, very good pressing). This 2 LP set was issued on the SFP Disques label (SFP 5021-5022). Now I HAVE cleaned both LP's with my VPI machine with VPI record cleaning fluid prior to listing it here but know that the vinyl has been graded visually - NOT play graded! The vinyl looks a solid mint minus.The thin and fragile laminated gatefold cover, which is extremely prone to browning and ringwear, is overall Mint Minus. The flaws on the cover are as follows: The inside gatefold appears to have had some glue seeping through the bottom where the cover was glued and when it was opened up there was some minor tearing where the gatefold got glued together (see the very bottom edge of the second scan: the white areas at the very bottom are what I am talking about. I circled the area in black [badly - hey: I just figured out how to do that and it's my first attempt!] on the scan so you can't miss where to look - these areas are between 1/20th and 1/10th of an inch high in reality, but run across about 1/2 of the bottom of each side of the gatefold).  On the front half of the gatefold the is a 2 inch seam split. I could repair this seam split and not tell you it was there and you'd never know, but I don't play those kind's of games. Now before you run away know the following: I owned this album once before which I bought when it first came out. My copy from 1978 - which I bought brand new - had the EXACT same problem with the glue and a small seam split split as well! From the distributor that had a small handfull of these at the time I was told that every copy of this that they had in stock had these 2 flaws and therefore I would find it reasonable to assume that pretty much all copies of the album will have these 2 flaws to some degree (the glue problem is due to shoddy manufacturing and the seam split due to the godawful flimsy "japanese-esque" original innersleeves that this album came in and the very thin cover - and no: you won't be getting those original innersleeves as I trashed them immediately when getting this and replaced them with proper polylined one's as they were all but disintigrated. If you want the original innersleeves just get yourself 4 x 12 inch square sheets of the thinnest and flimsiest wax sandwhich paper you can find, let them brown to where they almost start flaking when you touch them, glue them together and voila: original inner sleeves! Get the picture?). The spine, top, bottom and opening are all sharp and solid and all the white areas are WHITE with no browning or yellowing. The inside gatefold is pretty much perfect beyond what I noted above. And in case you missed it the first time around: the vinyl has been graded visually - NOT play graded! Now that we have established all this other stuff let's move on to the music etc. First off "Why the high opening bid?" Fair enough: back in 1994 I sold my copy of this for $450.00 to somebody who had been begging me to sell it for the better part of 5 years. And after he bought it I started getting letters from other collectors wanting it. This is only the second time in my life I have ever even SEEN a copy of this and as I no longer have my old address book with other collector's and customer's addresses in it (because I genuinely believed I was going to get 100% out of selling records in 1997 and tossed the address book!) it goes on ebay. I obviously don't want to "give it away" (given the lousy selling time it is on ebay for the next 6 weeks), but I figure my opening bid is beyond fair considering what I know this album has sold for in the past (and to the best of my knowledge there has never been a legit vinyl or cd reissue of it ever nor is one planned). Unlike a few sellers of very rare vinyl on ebay I also refuse to shill bid on my own auctions - I set all my opening bids at a price I can live with and therefore have no need to: if this does not sell for the opening bid I find this LP to be well worth that much to me personally so that I'd gladly keep it. And as I realize that the high price I once got for it is  due to ONE person being utterly desperate and not nessecarily reflective of the real value I have adjusted my Buy It Now price accordingly. I know this record is as rare as Bottled French Dwarf, but I don't know exactly what the CURRENT market value amongst collector's for it is....... This album falls into the "Ambient" and "Minimalist" categories of electronic music. To me personally it sounds a LITTLE bit like Brian Eno's "On Land" record mixed with a handful of the old "Enviroments" lp's. That really oversimplifies the whole thing and as a description does not really do it justice (but it might provide some sort of frame of reference for those of you familiar with Eno as well as the Enviroments series). It's a very quiet album and it very much moves at it's own pace. I think it's best listened to with the lights off. For those types so inclined I could easily imagine some special brownies or a few tabs could certainly"enhance" your listening experience - this album in parts seems almost custom made for tose sort of "inner-mind" voyages....... I found something online that describes it really well: "Ariel Kalma’s name occasionally comes up in conversation with those interested in the Progressive Rock scene that developed in Paris in the 1970s. He had worked with the likes of Christian Vander, Richard Pinhas and the French versions of MEV. In the late 70s he began to espouse musical/philosophical ideas that came to be associated with the so-called "New Age" (New wage?) movement, and released a number of cassettes of such for that growing market. This LP, released in 1978, is a collaboration with Musique Concrete/Tape Composer Richard Tinti, who at one point was connected with the activities of IRCAM, the French government’s program for native Academic/Classical Avante Garde Electronic Music composers (still thriving today with headquarters in the Pompidou center in Paris... the building with the Pipes outside, often remarked on by visitors to that city!!). The basic idea here is to incorporate field recording of natural sounds made in the Somali coastal regions with Kalma’s various instruments (Saxes, Flutes, Synthesizers, Keyboards, Guitar and Electronic Music Instruments/techniques). Theses tapes are themselves mixed, looped and layered to create the idea of hearing the music in a natural situation, whilst applying a range of compositional techniques to make the sound both plastic and fluid at once. Tape-looped Tenor Saxophone begins "Saxo Planetaria", soon joined by Looped Insects from the field recordings, each layered behind Kalma’s melodic Statements. "10/18/77" blends Synthesizer, Tapes and effects with a Taped montage, while "Planet Aire" uses the same instrumental mix, with Synthesizer creating a sub-harmonic drone underneath the natural sounds. Sides two, three and four (remember, this was released as a double LP) are given over to an array of Tape techniques. Rhythms appear in the form of loops, the most memorable being the Bee that comes buzzing across the stereo field. The sounds themselves are orchestrated in a symphonic like context, and Kalma’s sparse inputs on various instruments are correctly restrained, often not quite audible with intense concentration on the music to identify them! This is a joy being heard over headphones, or decent speakers in a very quiet environment, so that all the subtle sonic activity recorded can be heard. The editing and splicing is so well done that it is often not apparent that you are hearing a loop! Since this recording, Ariel Kalma has released a number of CDs in France, most generally in the Genre known here as "New Age" Music, all well-played but none as interesting as this disc. Musically, it would be an excellent piece to reissue on CD, as the new technology could enhance the clarity of the recording as it’s a work that is fascinating, distinct and unique!"

Records will be the following way:

The vinyl will be removed from the outer cover and placed inside of a plain paper inner sleeve. Naturally if the LP comes with a printed inner sleeve or any sort of a special original inner sleeve this will be included seperately with the album. The cover will be placed inside of a protective outer sleeve. This will all go inside of a proper LP mailer (not a priority mail box or the like) and it will include 2 proper LP sized cardboard stiffeners on each side and one sheet of bubble wrap between the cover and vinyl for added protection. I do tape the sides of the box as well. This is the way I pack ALL orders, regardless of if you choose priority mail, first class mail, airmail or registered mail - you will get the exact same quality of packing no matter which shipping method you choose :-)
