Description
It's time this copy is in a serious collection before my wife sends it to the local Goodwill. I will rate it a conservative VG+.
I have had this record since at least the 1980s. I no longer remember where I got it, but I do know I didn't know Art Blakey or a Blue Note from a flat one when I bought it. It wasn't until I went total jazz in the 1990s that I discovered what I had in music and it wasn't until several years ago that I started playing attention to Blue Note pressings. I am no expert and have tried to give the best description I can. I stand ready to make any corrections experts require.
Details: BN-LP-4003 A-1 in runoff Side 1, BN-LP-4003B in runoff Side 2, RVG stamped both sides, Plastyville "ear" both sides, address on label is 47 West 63rd with no "INC", Side 2 has R under E. Not so on Side 1. I am told this is not a first pressing because of the R under the E on second side.
Jacket: crease on front lower right (see photo), this shows less than in photo because of dark cover, otherwise bright shinny photo, back has chip at lower edge on paste-on and taped removed at lower right, small pen mark on upper left corner over "Fidelity", other wise nice, no seam splits, very slight rub to upper left and right corner, bright spine print. There is no original inner sleeve. It has a Roulette/Roost jazz sleeve. I have included a Diskeeper and a 75th Anniversary sleeve.
Vinyl: Record plays beautifully to my 73 year old ears on Mag 3.7s. On first glance the record is bright and shinny, on careful inspection there is a hairline on side 2 over most of surface. I hear no effect from it. On Side 1 there was a small bump, water removed it and I do hear a little noise occasionally on track one. I do not have a professional record cleaner and I am reluctant to do additional cleaning which I think would remove additional organic material. I think I hear a little crackle at the end of the last track on Side Two. I'll give both sides another listen. I can say that while I played this regularly, none of these caught my attention in routine listening.
